Simone Biles Falls Victim to Some Questionable Styling on Vanity Fair’s February 2024 Cover

Subsequent to Vogue giving Simone Biles the seal of approval as a worthy cover subject back in 2020, we’ve bared witness to the most decorated gymnast in World Championship history grace the covers of WSJ. Magazine, Glamour, New York Magazine, Essence and ELLE Spain to name just a few. Radhika Jones at Vanity Fair is the latest editor to score Biles as a cover star, who makes an appearance on the publication’s February 2024 installment. Captured by photographer Adrienne Raquel against a textured brown studio backdrop, the celebrated American sportswoman is dressed by stylist Nicole Martine Chapoteau in a bustier dress from Rick Owens’ Spring 2024 collection, teamed with a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti heels.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This girl is an amazing athlete, and is also 4ft 8 (142cm). PLEASE give her a chance instead of shrouding her in some disgusting pink pillowcase. The styling is so bad. It’s very distracting from her face,” noted Kite.

“A chiffon mini dress would have perfect for this shoot. It always pains me when stylists put athletes in clothes that are restrictive in terms of movement!” echoed Lola701.

Urban Stylin wasn’t best thrilled either, commenting: “The composition and styling is wrong. Who thought to put her in that cloud of a dress? The angle and the dress make her look shorter.”

Kokobombon cried out: “The styling and photography could have been so much better!”

“When a folded tongue works as a dress. Terrible!” shrieked forum member Xone.

“With the dress, I can see the concept they were going for – trying to echo sculptural curves – but it puts me in mind of a large piece of pink chewing gum, and I feel bad saying that, because I like that Simone Biles is on the cover,” chimed in tigerrouge.
