Award season is well and truly underway and W Magazine, as always, is jumping on the hype. Back in January, like clockwork, Sara Moonves bestowed upon us the annual ‘Best Performances‘ issue and follows it up with ‘The Directors Issue’ which has ultimately became a regular occurrence since 2019. This year’s offering for Volume #2 2024 gives us a threesome of covers, directed by a trio of Hollywood’s finest. Cover one is Saltburn‘s Barry Keoghan directed by Emerald Fennell. Secondly, we see actress America Ferrera directed by Barbie‘s Greta Gerwig, who poses in Fendi before the lens of photographer Mickalene Thomas. Anatomy of a Fall‘s Sandra Hüller is directed by Justine Triet on cover three, and captured by photographer Tyler Mitchell wearing a Louis Vuitton dress.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“An instant must-have,” raved KoV the moment the Barry Keoghan’s cover struck.

“Seems like he’s gonna be the new Ezra Miller,” noted phungam96.

“Buffy, Twilight, pearls and latex… they’re working overtime on the gay gaze and I hate to admit that it’s working. But America’s works better for me as a cover, she looks quite stunning,” voiced aracic.

Also very much a fan of Ferrera’s cover was forum member GivenchyAddict: “America is STUNNING. Bravo W!”

“America’s cover story is DIVINEEEE! She’s so fab, OMG!” fenty exclaimed.

“Oh Sandra looks AMAZING,” chimed in Kite.

“I love the 3 covers and respective editorials! I’m going bankrupt this month!” declared WAVES.

The biggest night of award season definitely didn’t disappoint on the fashion front. The Oscars red carpet was full of extravagant gowns featuring everything from deconstructed bodices to capes to ruffles and fringe. We love when attendees take fashion risks, even if they don’t pay off. Hey, it’s the Oscars, go big or go home.

There was a lot of black on the red carpet and plenty of bling. And while nominees like Scarlett Johansson, Cynthia Erivo and Renée Zellweger let their dresses do the sparkling, others opted to shine via statement jewelry, especially necklaces. Necklines ran the gamut from strapless to off the shoulder to plunging. Special shout-out to Janelle Monáe for winning the red carpet with her hooded Ralph Lauren Collection stunner. There were some bright spots at this year’s Oscars, including Mindy Kaling’s golden yellow Dolce & Gabbana number, Florence Pugh’s blue-green Louis Vuitton creation and Kristen Wiig’s larger-than-life Valentino.

See what your favorite stars wore to this year’s Oscars in the slideshow above.

This year the BAFTA Awards tried to go green, even on the red carpet. The reportedly carbon-neutral award show even distributed a sustainable fashion guide to attendees. A few did comply, most notably Kate Middleton who recycled the Alexander McQueen dress she donned for a 2012 official dinner. (Not surprising since the duchess is known for getting the most out of her gowns.) There were plenty of black dresses at the ceremony and a decent amount of voluminous silhouettes. But there were pops of bright color, including fuchsia, yellow, red and pink. See who wore what in the slideshow above.

There was a lot of color on the red carpet at this year’s Golden Globe Awards. We were treated to retina-burning reds, bright pinks, splashes of yellow and even neon green. The other major trend? Structure. From Cate Blanchett’s pleated sleeves to Joey King’s mesmerizing cape dress to Charlize Theron’s black bodice. There were also plenty of pantsuits and jumpsuits to fawn over.

US Vogue January 2020 : Stella McCartney & Family by Annie LeibovitzAnna Wintour has been on a roll lately gifting us great covers and some unexpected cover stars. First came an amazing Olivia Colman offering, a glorious Rihanna cover followed, then we were treated to a practically perfect Phoebe Waller-Bridge cover for December. Now the American fashion bible is honoring the fearless faces and forces in the industry with four January 2020 covers. All shot by Annie Leibovitz and styled by Tonne Goodman, the fresh covers feature Stella McCartney, Ashley Graham, Greta Gerwig and a mystery subject to be named later.

Stella’s cover was the first to drop. “This is such a great idea, I know people usually hate kids on covers, but I love that they gave a cover to a female designer. Also this is easily the most natural of Leibovitz’s covers. Bring on the others…” raved Miss Dalloway. “Seemingly surprising, but actually a very suitable way to start the new decade. Stella McCartney is a pioneer and a tireless advocate for sustainable practices in fashion,” noted dodencebt. “Come through Anna! She seems to have had some sort of a revelation recently with all these gorgeous covers and surprising cover subjects. Love everything about this!” applauded aracic.

Marc10 felt the same enthusiasm for the cover: “Whoa, Anna has been brave with some unexpected yet awesome cover stars lately! Love this, what a gorgeous, warm image. Really flawless!” “WOW! That cover is stunning. I love the fact that despite how simple the image is, it still captures your attention. Great way to start the year, Vogue U.S.,” said crmsnsnwflks. The covers starring Ashley and Greta proved to be just as popular. “Oh the other two are STUNNING! Ashley’s cover is so far the best. The stare, the mood, the composition. Stunning,” approved MON. “Really beautiful covers, finally American Vogue‘s style comes back! These portraits are so romantic and modern at the same time,” declared biagiolr. “Ashley and Greta are unexpected but welcome surprises. Loving all three images so far, classic Leibovitz. And wondering who’s the final cover star gonna be…” wrote amby.

There were definitely some consistent themes at this year’s epic Met Gala. With the party celebrating the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination exhibit, attendees offered their penance in the form of veils, crosses and headpieces galore. Yellows, reds and golds also proved popular for this secular celebration. As is usually the case, a few stars took things to the extreme. Rihanna transformed herself into a pope, Zendaya channeled Joan of Arc, Katy Perry looked like she was auditioning for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and Madonna reteamed with Jean Paul Gaultier for a more solemn spin.

The beauty scene at the Oscars is notoriously snoozy, so we were delighted to see more than a few stars buck the cliché last night. Taraji P. Henson and Whoopi Goldberg showed up in eggplant purple lipstick; Lupita Nyong’o, St. Vincent and Andra Day broke out show-stealing hair accessories; Whoopi Goldberg channeled Rihanna; Margot Robbie, Saoirse Ronan and Greta Gerwig all debuted brand-spanking new ‘dos. And a good time was had by all, except maybe Ryan Seacrest. Check out our favorite and least-loved 2018 Oscars beauty looks in the slideshow above.

Two trends reigned supreme at this year’s Oscars: dazzling metallics and stark white. But color wasn’t absent from the red carpet with pops of red, pink, blue, purple and green all having strong showings. Besides all the bling brought to us by celebs decked out in gold and silver, we were also treated to a lot of sparkle courtesy of some heavy embellishments along with eye-catching jewelry that almost upstaged a few gowns (not to mention a couple of scene-stealing hair accessories). And some stars opted for sheer drama by embracing/not letting go of the see-through trend. Check out the night’s fashion highlights in the slideshow above.

Sparkle was definitely trending at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. In sharp contrast to the blackout at the Golden Globes, this red carpet was pretty blinding with all the sequined gowns and bright colors, not to mention all the flashy jewelry. Pink also proved popular with several stars selecting soft shades of the millennial favorite. The hairstyles were just as grand as the gowns with attendees rocking everything from natural locks to finger waves to slicked-back strands and even space buns. While Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards red carpet was basically a sea of black (and for good reason), last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards was far more colorful. We pretty much witnessed every color on the spectrum, from hot pink to emerald green to a variety of pastels (twice all in one outfit). There was also a healthy dose of white on the blue carpet with attendees favoring crisp pieces featuring bold details like excess lace, metallic mesh and feathers. And there were still a handful of stars embracing black, but usually bedecked in embellishments. Check out who wore what in the slideshow above.
