Award season is well and truly underway and W Magazine, as always, is jumping on the hype. Back in January, like clockwork, Sara Moonves bestowed upon us the annual ‘Best Performances‘ issue and follows it up with ‘The Directors Issue’ which has ultimately became a regular occurrence since 2019. This year’s offering for Volume #2 2024 gives us a threesome of covers, directed by a trio of Hollywood’s finest. Cover one is Saltburn‘s Barry Keoghan directed by Emerald Fennell. Secondly, we see actress America Ferrera directed by Barbie‘s Greta Gerwig, who poses in Fendi before the lens of photographer Mickalene Thomas. Anatomy of a Fall‘s Sandra Hüller is directed by Justine Triet on cover three, and captured by photographer Tyler Mitchell wearing a Louis Vuitton dress.

“Seems like he’s gonna be the new Ezra Miller,” noted phungam96.

“Buffy, Twilight, pearls and latex… they’re working overtime on the gay gaze and I hate to admit that it’s working. But America’s works better for me as a cover, she looks quite stunning,” voiced aracic.

Also very much a fan of Ferrera’s cover was forum member GivenchyAddict: “America is STUNNING. Bravo W!”

“America’s cover story is DIVINEEEE! She’s so fab, OMG!” fenty exclaimed.

“Oh Sandra looks AMAZING,” chimed in Kite.

“I love the 3 covers and respective editorials! I’m going bankrupt this month!” declared WAVES.

We’ll admit it: we lost a little interest in W Magazine when it switched from a monthly magazine to “volumes” issued every other month. The last time the publication took our forum’s fancy was back in November 2017 with Margot Robbie on the cover. Now, exactly a year later, W has our attention again with its annual art issue. Cardi B, the Billboard-topping rapper (and former CR Fashion Book cover girl), is featured on the cover, glammed up to the max and decked out in gold Rodarte, photographed by Mickalene Thomas and styled by Kollin Carter.

Despite W Magazine‘s best efforts, our forum members weren’t feeling it. “This magazine’s days are numbered… haven’t bought a single issue since they went from monthly to volume,” stated GERGIN, the moment the cover came to light.

“What’s with the art issues? And what’s with Cardi B fronting one?” asked EstfaniaAbaddon.

“The devil works hard, but Cardi’s PR team works harder. Does she deserve these covers? I doubt it, but definitely not an ART issue for her,” MDNA chimed in.

“I don’t want to see her on covers – but I’m starting to think the backlash against Cardi B will be so strong that things will boomerang around twice as strongly in her favor,” wrote tigerrouge.

Benn98 hated it, writing, “Vulgar, tacky, cheap, disgusting!”

“RIP W Magazine,” slammed RMDV.
