Forum Members Review Sabato De Sarno’s Menswear Debut as Gucci’s Creative Director

That’s a wrap on day one of Menswear Milan Fashion Week and the most undoubtedly buzz-worthy moment of the day was Sabato De Sarno embarking on his long-awaited menswear debut as Gucci’s creative director. During MFW’s Spring 2024 season, we bared witnessed to the Italian designer’s vision for womenswear and all eyes were fixated upon De Sarno today as he made he first official foray into menswear for Fall 2024. Further portraying his vision for the Italian fashion label, De Sarno mirrored the theme of Ancora from his womenswear offering (including the runway setting and the music compiled by Mark Ronson). Models paraded the darkened warehouse showspace wearing a wardrobe of long trench coats, peacoats, nylon bomber jackets, fluffy cardigans and toting oversized versions of Gucci’s signature Jackie handbag to complete the look.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Nobody asked for Ancora for men! And the audacity to repeat some of the looks from Spring 2024 as if there was anything good to even copy and paste.” [perhydrol]

“No vision.” [ah ah]

“I feel like De Sarno is more confident designing for men but as everyone says, his Gucci is just blends with Zara, Massimo Dutti, and COS. It’s like finding Loro Piana for the first time and wondering why such basic clothes cost so much!” [tourbillions]

“It’s not terrible. It’s a passable, wearable collection. It does however, reek of Dior Homme, the suits in particular. Unfortunately just good enough isn’t going to cut it in the long run. He has now had his two pallet cleaner collections and now it’s time to see what he’s truly made of.” [GivenchyHomme]

“It’s not bad, much more convincing than the women’s collection. Sabato is a merchandise designer, the product is both wearable and well made but devoid of any personality.” [avonlea002]

“It’s very good and solid for a menswear collection. The coats are great, the tailoring looks sharp and well cut and even the logo presentation is done in a very chic way.” [WAVES]

“A sleek collection. Beautiful color palette.” [MModa]
