Throughout her tenure as editor of the Hearst-owned fashion title, Garcia has championed fashion models as ELLE cover stars – very much to the delight of us here at theFashionSpot. Irina Shayk, Imaan Hammam, Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Gisele Bündchen have each been blessed with covers of late. Now, it’s Vittoria Ceretti’s turn in the spotlight for March 2024. Shot by Mario Sorrenti and styled by ELLE‘s fashion director Alex White, the Italian beauty and current face of Michael Kors Collection wears pieces from Gucci and Willy Chavarria across a duo of simplistic covers.

In particular… the second with Vittoria wearing the Willy Chavarria. I have a massive amount of respect and admiration for Nina Garcia endorsing fashion models as cover stars,” applauded vogue28.

Nina Garcia continues to secure the crème de la crème of the film, music and fashion industry for American ELLE‘s front covers. Rivaling Anna Wintour’s Vogue and Samira Nasr’s Harper’s Bazaar, Garcia’s most recent cover accomplishments have included Zendaya, Phoebe Dynevor and Irina Shayk, while last month’s offering saw Garcia drop a whole plethora of covers starring a handful of Hollywood’s finest. ELLE‘s first offering of the new year for February 2024 sees Penélope Cruz take to the cover, via the lens of photographer Zoey Grossman. In the crisp and commanding cover image captured in black and white, the Spanish actress gazes down Grossman’s lens whilst styled by Alex White wearing a (barely-visible) Chanel jacket and earrings.

As editor-in-chief of the American fashion glossy, Nina Garcia has propelled the Hearst-owned publication to new heights and outshines the competition on the regular. From covers with Zendaya to Phoebe Dynevor we have been utterly enthralled by the magazine’s offerings throughout 2023 and last month with Irina Shayk left us wanting even more. Garcia is closing the chapter on 2023 with a series of celebratory covers for ELLE‘s annual ‘Women In Hollywood’ issue and selects Jennifer Lopez, Jodie Foster, Taraji P. Henson, America Ferrera, Danielle Brooks, Greta Lee, Fantasia Barrino Taylor, Lily Gladstone and Eva Longoria as cover stars for the occasion.

ELLE‘s latest immediately sparked debate amongst our forum members. “Happy to see Danielle (the Oscar is hers for the taking) but I can’t say I particularly like any of these covers,” voiced KoV.

“None of the covers are beautiful, but the Jennifer Lopez’s is very Numéro,” DK92 noted.

“Too bad J.Lo’s mouth look weird, hers is the one of the best of the bunch IMO,” said kokobombon.

In regards to Lopez’s cover, forum member kasper exclaimed: “Terrible tribute to Herb Ritts! Can we have something original at least?”

MModa felt the same way, commenting: “The Jennifer Lopez cover is absolutely STUNNING! I cannot wait to get my hands on this issue with Lopez. I don’t see Herb Ritts influence in these photographs, I see Solve Sundsbo’s minimal style that I love. With a beauty and icon like Lopez, you don’t need special effects!”

Nina Garcia’s ELLE is the gift that keeps on giving – officially. Throughout 2023 alone, the editor of the Hearst-owned American fashion glossy has bestowed upon us a whole plethora of ultra-fabulous covers. Those covers have given us Kaia Gerber, Gigi Hadid, Jenna Ortega, Megan Thee Stallion, Karol G, Imaan Hamman, Zendaya and we fell completely head over heels with last month’s Phoebe Dynevor offering.

The cover of the magazine’s November 2023 issue goes to Irina Shayk, who fresh from the cover of British Vogue poses before the lens of photographer Daniel Jackson. The Russian beauty proves less is always more in the minimalist and crisp cover image, kneeling on the floor of Jackson’s photographic studio, with stylist Alex White dressing the current face of Versace in head-to-toe Ferragamo, with a pair of Van Cleef & Arpels earrings and watch completing the cover look.

We’ll race you down to the newsstand for this one. “This is going to pop on the newsstands. I haven’t purchased a copy of American ELLE in ages but will be picking this up when I see it,” said Velasco.

“Love the cover and editorial. Irina looks HOT. Getting this issue for sure!” MModa echoed.

“American ELLE continues to eat Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar up. I really love how simple yet striking this is. Beautiful editorial as well,” raved crmsn.

As EIC of British ELLE, Kenya Hunt continues to steer the magazine in a whole new direction. Hunt’s latest accomplishment is reinstating the ELLE Style Awards, and delivers us a corresponding style issue for October 2023. This year’s winners are also this month’s cover stars, which sees actress Florence Pugh posing on cover one before the lens of Danny Kasirye wearing Valentino. Shot by Petros, a Wales Bonner-clad Ncuti Gatwa fronts the second cover while Gemma Chan (also photographed by Petros) fronts cover number three decked out in Louis Vuitton. Singer and songwriter Tems fronts cover four via the lens of Ekua King dressed in Vivienne Westwood, while the fifth and final cover features Suki Waterhouse modeling a look from Prada and photographed by Danny Kasirye.

British ELLE‘s latest ignited debate amongst members of our forums, immediately. “I love Suki, always lovely to see her get a cover,” praised callmejaeden.
“My favorite cover out of the five is Florench Pugh’s, I kinda like the boldness of it and the overall composition. Gemma Chan’s cover is also rather nice but doesn’t blow me away. Suki Waterhouse’s is the absolute worst! She looks half-asleep and caught mid-pose. Not even sure how such a cover made it to print,” expressed vogue28.
“NOPE, lol, not a single good cover and are they kidding with that expression on Suki’s cover? A yawn? And then people in the industry have the nerve to ask ‘why aren’t people buying magazines anymore?'” commented an unamused Bertrando3.
“The color grading and the over-saturation make my eyes burn. Some photographers have such a heavy hand on their retouching. These cover feel very amateur” GivenchyAddict chimed in.

The girls of Blackpink remain out in full force, in an attempt to dominate the global fashion industry – and it’s working. The K-pop girl group consisting of members Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé have been welcomed with open arms by the world of fashion. It only took a matter of time for Jisoo to be signing on the dotted line with Christian Dior, Lisa with Celine, Rosé with Saint Laurent and Chanel was quick to snap up Jennie.
Magazine editors across the globe have also been shrewd enough to drop covers featuring the K-pop phenomenon, with the members of Blackpink having now fronted fashion titles ELLE, Vogue Hong Kong and Vogue Korea (to name a very VERY select few) within a short space of time – both on occasions together and on solo outings. More often than not, to capitalize on the massive success and immense fandom of the band, at least one member of Blackpink fronts a Korean fashion title just about every month. Impressed, much?

ELLE France is one of the latest fashion publication’s to give up their cover to one of Blackpink’s members, with Jennie Kim making an appearance on the magazine’s issue dated August 23, 2023. Captured by Camilla Akrans and styled by Park Min Hee, it should come as no surprise to see the South Korean singer, rapper and actress dressed in a pink Chanel (to which she is brand ambassador) jacket in the gorgeous cover image.

As EIC of American ELLE, Nina Garcia has cemented herself and the magazine as a major competitor alongside the likes of Anna Wintour’s Vogue and Samira Nasr’s Harper’s Bazaar. Month after month, issue after issue, Garcia outshines the competition and last month saw Imaan Hammam take to two dynamic covers – a move which was widely celebrated on our forums given the fact models are a total rarity on mainstream American fashion titles.

This month, Garcia ups ante for ELLE’s all-important September issue and true to rumors via our forums, one of the biggest stars within the world of entertainment makes an appearance: Zendaya! Captured by renowned photographer Steven Klein and with Law Roach on styling duties, the multifaceted American star poses up a storm in the vibrant and electric cover image captured on location at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles and poses poolside wearing a Louis Vuitton dress, Bulgari jewelry (both in which Zendaya is brand ambassador) and stands tall in a pair of killer Christian Louboutin stilettos.

Amazingly so, however, the end result of ELLE‘s latest cover shoot garnered negative feedback amongst our forum members. “Zendaya looks good as she always does, but I don’t care for the cover image,” voiced KINGofVERSAILLES.
“I like her, not sure on the cover,” echoed Ivancica.
“It’s giving budget limitations. I don’t think a rooftop was the right setting. It needed a villa, something unapologetically lavish to really amplify the sex and excess. The cover isn’t good either,” Benn98 chimed in.
Also not exactly jumping for joy was DK92: “I generally like Klein’s work, but he really annoys me with this filter that makes everyone look like they haven’t showered in a month.”
“All the components are here for a grand September cover, such as big star like Zendaya and a fantastic photographer like Steven Klein but the cover itself does nothing for me. There’s far too much going on with the busy and textured backdrop of the hotel and the red masthead is disappearing,” noticed vogue28.

Now for August 2022, the magazine invites forum favorite Ana de Armas to make her debut as an ELLE cover star. Captured by Christian MacDonald with Alex White on styling duties, the actress appears on the cover looking effortless sporting a striped number from Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2022 collection.

The cover ignited debate on our forums. “Glad they kept it relaxed and didn’t style her as Marilyn Monroe,” appreciated YourMonster.

“Finally, this is an instant fave,” raved ivano.

“This is so good,” added caioherrero.

“Ana de Armas photographs beautifully (will never forget how well she photographed for Vogue Spain) and this is no exception. The colors here are gorgeous, love the laid-back attitude for August, how clean and direct the cover photograph is, the Louis Vuitton and how the art direction complements the Louis Vuitton look. Zero complaints from me!” proclaimed vogue28.

“The cover looks super refreshing,” admired crmsnsnwflks.

But not everyone is into it. “Ana looks great, as she always does, but it’s hard to celebrate the fact they didn’t take the obvious Marilyn route when instead they made her wear that hideous Louis Vuitton rugby shirt/dress. Looks juvenile, like an American Eagle ad or something,” KINGofVERSAILLES chimed in.

“Perfect for U.S. ELLE if you ask me,” defended WAVES.

British ELLE has undergone some changes recently following Farrah Storr’s abrupt departure after a series of triumphant covers with Alva Claire, Daphne Groeneveld, Ramla Ali and Michaela Coel. Back in December, Kenya Hunt was announced as Storr’s replacement and covers featuring Dakota Johnson and Nicola Coughlan totally flopped. Nevertheless, Sienna Miller‘s recent cover felt like old-school ELLE as does this month’s offering with Emma Raducanu. The tennis ace looks effortless and demure sporting slicked-back hair and a dewy makeup look in the July/August 2022 cover shot by Sebastian Kim. Styled by Aurelia Donaldson, the 19-year-old wears a white button-down shirt and embellished skirt from Christian Dior teamed with Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

But British ELLE‘s latest divided our forums. “One to please the sponsors and as a July/August issue timed to coincide with summer tennis,” noted tigerrouge.

“This should have been shot on a tennis court,” voiced caioherrero.

“She’s a beautiful and talented young lady, but I feel this is not great. Is this her first cover?” asked carbon-made. “I feel the studio setting intimidated her a little bit, I agree this should have been shot outdoors where she could have perhaps been more carefree.”

“Emma Raducanu reminds me of a young Angelina Jolie. The cover seems rather dark…” Urban Stylin chimed in.

Although not everyone was so quick to disapprove of the outcome. “WOW, don’t know who she is but she is GORGEOUS! And I live for the styling… I would have loved to have seen this shot on location on a tennis court though, too,” commented Bertrando3.

“Very much a fan of this! There’s a simplicity and sense of sophistication with the styling that I like, feels very elegant and mature. Also not even mad at the fact this is a summer issue and it was shot in the studio because it’s just so…chic,” raved vogue28.
