Ever since scoring her very first solo Vogue cover and landing her first major advertising gig, Kaia Gerber has remained a force to be reckoned with within the world of fashion. Last year alone saw Cindy Crawford’s mini-me grace the covers of ELLE and W Magazine (to name a select few) and became the face of mega brands Alaïa and Valentino. Not even three months into 2024 and Kaia has fronted the covers of Perfect, British Vogue, WSJ. Magazine and becomes the face of DKNY for Spring 2024. Via the lens of British photographer Alasdair McLellan and styled by Alastair McKimm, Kaia morphs into the ultimate DKNY woman throughout series of campaign portraits, helping herald a new era and a new energy of the iconic American label.

McLellan’s distinctive and youth-orientated aesthetic only heightens the campaign, and I genuinely don’t have a bad word to say about this. Those portraits of Kaia are superb!” enthused vogue28.

You’re no doubt fully aware that here at theFashionSpot, we believe Harper’s Bazaar France outshines Vogue France on the regular. After all, covers starring the likes of Catherine Deneuve, Amelia Gray and Vanessa Paradis toward the end of 2023 enthralled us to no end. Olivier Lalanne taps model-of-the-moment Karolina Spakowski for Bazaar France’s first offering of 2024. The fresh-faced Germany beauty who walked the shows of Schiaparelli, Valentino and Fendi during Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week morphs into British modeling icon Twiggy in the charming cover image. Bazaar called upon photographer Alasdair McLellan for the occasion, in addition to stylist Elodie David Touboul who insisted Spakowski suit up in Giorgio Armani.

Vogue28 was also very much a fan, admiring: “Another absolute triumph for Harper’s Bazaar France! The cover itself feels like a breath of fresh air, love McLellan’s photography here, the fact it’s Karolina Spakowski, the Twiggy inspo and the whole art direction. The cover, overall, is just executed to perfectly. A 10/10 from me!”

From the get-go (the relaunch back in March), Harper’s Bazaar France has endorsed and championed homegrown talent. From French models like Loli Bahia and Laetitia Casta to French actors like Catherine Deneuve, French singer Vanessa Paradis is now the title’s cover girl. As per the request of Olivier Lalanne, Paradis makes an appearance on the November 2023 issue via the lens of Alastair McLellan. In the charming cover image, the celebrated songstress and muse of the late Karl Lagerfeld appears joyous, flashing her iconic gap-toothed smile and sporting a look from Chanel’s Cruise 2024 collection. The glitzy chevron number is teamed by stylist Elodie David Touboul with a pair of Chanel roller skates (which have been immediately added to our holiday wish-list).

This month, however, French Bazaar‘s latest had members of theFashionSpot forums a divided bunch. “I don’t like the cover. The black and white doesn’t appeal to me,” voiced ezacessline.

“What in the world!” shrieked matheus_s upon checking out the cover.

“I feel like a good stylist/photographer/model would have made us believe she was about to put on those Chanel roller skates and terrorize the streets of Paris. What we have here is so sad, ‘look… I’m holding these dumb Chanel roller skates’,” commented blueorchid.

“The Chanel skates are offensive, because you know they cost more than mortgage payment,” forum member mepps chimed in.

Nevertheless, not everyone was left so unimpressed. “I love Vanessa Paradis, she’s very iconic in France. Happy to see her still being on covers after so many years,” admired Bertrando3.

“It’s fun, I love the black and white photography from McLellan here teamed with that shade of pink. Of course, Vanessa Paradis wearing Chanel is always a good idea – will always and forever approve of that partnership!” championed vogue28.

Perhaps we were a little hard on Emanuele Farneti when he was editor of Vogue Italia from 2017 until 2022. Not even covers with the likes of Amber Valletta, Anok Yai, Gigi Hadid, Claudia Schiffer or Madonna were enough to impress us during Farneti’s tenure. 
However, the Italian editor appears to be flourishing at the helm of Italian title D la Repubblica and the magazine’s first offering throughout September 2023 has became an instant hit. Farneti welcomes Kaia Gerber as one of the magazine’s cover stars to kick-start the first of five big fashion issues coming our way this month, who appears before the lens of photographer Alasdair McLellan. Dressed in a black glitzy Celine dress by stylist Suzanne Koller, the all-American beauty oozes retro glamour in the chic black and white cover photograph (below) while poses under warm sunshine on the second alternative cover (after the jump).

Over on theFashionSpot forums, we simply cannot get enough. “Such a beautiful cover,” admired caioherrero.

“Farneti should have done to Vogue Italia what he is doing at D la Repubblica! Most of the issues in the last two years have had really good stylists, photographers and models,” mentioned Ivanity86.
