2022 Oscars

Red was clearly trending on the red carpet at the 2022 Oscars. Seems like most attendees got the memo that the fiery color was going to be big at the ceremony. Everyone from Kirsten Dunst to Tracee Ellis Ross to Jennifer Garner flaunted striking gowns in various crimson hues.

Another trend? Sparkles. Lupita Nyong’o really shined in a heavily embellished Prada number. She even sported complementary gold eye makeup. Zendaya’s Valentino haute couture cropped shirt and sequin skirt combo was giving off Sharon Stone and Carolina Herrera vibes. Not that we’re complaining, of course. Jessica Chastain also made a statement in a flashy Gucci gown. Emilia Jones’ glitzy Dolce & Gabbana was pretty epic, too.

Skin was certainly in. Thigh-high slits, plunging necklines and see-through skirts offered plenty of peekaboo moments. Kristen Stewart even rocked short shorts courtesy of Chanel.

There was also lots of blinding bling. Tiffany Haddish’s necklace tied into her Dolce & Gabbana gown perfectly. Rachel Zegler’s choker really upped the ante on her custom Christian Dior haute couture creation. And Zendaya’s stacks of Bvlgari Serpenti Viper diamond bracelets on both arms were something to behold.

Keep reading to see all the can’t miss red carpet looks from the 2022 Oscars.

Actress Amy Schumer knows first hand what it’s like to be the victim of body shamers, which has fueled her desire to encourage people to be body positive and embrace how they look. Now, she’s taking her passion to fashion with a new ready-to-wear collaboration with celebrity stylist Leesa Evans, called Le Cloud, that caters to women of all shapes and sizes. Schumer told WWD, “My instinct is to be authentic and to empower women of all ages and sizes to do the same. We are making beautiful, comfortable and wearable clothing that is accessible to real women. A Le Cloud customer will feel confident and powerful when wearing these pieces. We take our product seriously, but not ourselves.” Schumer says Evans is the reason she felt more confident in her own skin: “She [Evans] taught me about proportions, and she taught me that I could feel comfortable in something other than sweatpants. The tools that she gave me for feeling comfortable and feeling that I could reach my full potential, and I was more worthy to be out in the world in an outfit. I wanted to pass that on to every woman. That is my truest, deepest reason I wanted to do this. And wanting it to be affordable and comfortable and look great” The first time Schumer hinted about a collaboration with Evans was back in July. Schumer posted a photo on Instagram of her in a red top and skirt with the caption: “@leesaevansstyle and i are cookin somethin Up.” https://www.instagram.com/p/BlIyl4qFgLk/ This isn’t the first time the duo has worked together on a project for empowering women. In 2015, the two launched Stylefund, “a fashion initiative aimed at the promotion and cultivation of personal well-being.” Le Cloud will launch on December 13 exclusively at Saks Off 5th. Sizes range from XS to XXL, which equates to 0-20, and retail prices go from $38 to $248.

: a celebration of motherhood and the influence that mothers have on society. Good children that we are, we fête the day with phone calls, flowers, thoughtfully worded cards, champagne brunches and a requisite Instagram post (or two or three or four, depending on how many maternal figures you have in your life). Celebs (being just like us and all) do the same. Some — January Jones, Naomi Watts — shared the various, ahem, gifts they received. Others — Kim Kardashian, her sister Kourt — thanked their kids for the privilege of raising them. Still others — Amy Schumer, Bella and Gigi Hadid — paid homage to their progenitor with a babely #tb photo. Scroll down to see how all your favorite A-listers celebrated Mother’s Day, the Instagram way. (Also, can we please talk about how Apple Martin is the spitting image of Gwyneth? Mom genes, indeed.)

Everyone pretty much marched to the beat of their own fashion drum at the newly minted MTV Movie & TV Awards. The award show boasted genderless categories this go-round and a majority of the looks were über feminine with a few brave souls diverging from the pack by opting for more gender-neutral ensembles. Sparkle and fancy embroidery were definitely trending as several attendees embraced metallics, even down to their accessories. One-shoulder pieces were popular as were asymmetric hemlines. On the beauty front, strong lips were a real theme with stars rocking everything from deep red to bright blue lip colors. For all the fashion action from last night’s ceremony, check out the slideshow above.

We all knew the second that the “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between” theme was announced for this year’s Met Gala, we were in for some outlandish looks. (After all, if there’s one designer who deserves the OTT treatment, it’s Rei Kawakubo.) And certain attendees didn’t disappoint, delivering truly shocking ensembles. Leave it to Rihanna to give the biggest shout-out to Kawakubo by slipping on an elaborate structured floral piece by Comme des Garçons wrapped up with some extremely strappy red heels. Katy Perry turned heads in her veil-covered fiery custom Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano creation. Lily Aldridge also went for the veiled look, while a few daring souls topped off their ensembles with statement head or neck gear. Even with all the lavish excess a gala like this demands, there were still some stars who played it safe. Though Elizabeth Banks, Diane Kruger and Lupita Nyong’o all looked lovely, we were really expecting a bigger fashion punch on this red carpet, especially since we were hoping that more stars would dare to rock Comme des Garçons’ wares. Nevertheless, there was a strong showing of grand gowns boasting everything from feathered trains to cascading ruffles. Red ruled the night, whether in full-on fashion or in concentrated pops serving as eye-catching accents. And, of course, what would a Met Gala be without a few see-through numbers? In case you weren’t able to catch all the red carpet action from this year’s “intimate” affair, check out the slideshow above to see the best looks of the night.

Comedian-slash-national treasure Amy Schumer is InStyle’s May cover star. The glossy’s first-ever dedicated beauty issue shows a smoky-eyed Schumer floating in a pool wearing a white Lauren Ralph Lauren one-piece. According to InStyle, the Carter Smith-lensed, Cristina Ehrlich-styled portrait was not airbrushed or altered in any way. (Credit their body-positive attitude…or fear of a scathing Instagram post.)

“It was important to me to have someone representing beauty who is representative of more than a small part of the population,” InStyle editor in chief Laura Brown said of her choice of cover star. “Also, she has a voice. And that is really what I rely on and prioritize in every single person in the magazine. The fact that she looks freaking hot in a one-piece is no small delight.”

Schumer embodies the authentic, low-maintenance vibe the (relatively) newly appointed editor seeks to bring to the publication. In her predictably hilarious cover interview, the always-candid actress broaches familiar topics like drinking (“In the past couple years there have been times when I haven’t drunk for months. What I find is I look so much better, feel amazing…and am so bored. Life isn’t that fun. So I can feel really good for a while, but then it’s one of the things that I look forward to, so until I am told ‘You cannot do this anymore,’ I’ll probably continue to do it.”) and self-esteem (“My parents made me think I was a genius supermodel, and it was kind of too late when I found out that they had been lying.”).

The issue also includes personal essays by Brooke Shields, Debbie Harry and Nicole Richie, who reflect on their signature features (brows, blonde hair and ever-glowing skin, respectively). Sophia Amoruso, who has a semi-autobiographical Netflix series on the way, writes of starting over post-Nasty Gal.

Thus far, our favorite outcome of the issue is Schumer’s requisite video interview (a poor man’s 73 Questions) in which she divulges her must-have beauty product. Check out the clip below.

Are you ready for a fright? Stars were out in full force this Halloween and some of the costumes were downright terrifying. We’re not talking creepy creatures, zombies or monsters, either. No, this year celebs decided to give us a scare by going all-out with election-themed getups. From Katy Perry morphing into Hillary Clinton (natch) and Orlando Bloom sporting orange face as a trolling Donald Trump to Jemima Khan embodying Melania Trump being felt up by her hubby, the candidates clearly made an impression. Of course, it wasn’t all politics as several stars dressed up as skeletons and the Wild West was also trending. And you know we couldn’t make it through Halloween without at least one Stranger Things ensemble and some odes to Ryan Lochte. The post Blake Lively, Amy Schumer and Katie Holmes Call Out Girls’ Life Magazine for Its Infuriating Cover appeared first on theFashionSpot.

]]>

For the first time in history, a woman is about to be on the ballot of the United States presidential election. Elsewhere in today’s news, you’ll see that an A-list celebrity couple that shall remain nameless is very consciously uncoupling, and the general consensus is that the wife is neither pitiful nor jilted, but a strong, caring, independent, politically engaged mom who will be just as happy standing on her own as she was when she was one half of Hollywood’s most revered couple.

Suffice it to say that the whole “what does it mean to be a woman in today’s society?” or, put more simply, “what will I be when I grow up?” conversation sounds a whole lot different to today’s little girls and boys than it did just a few decades prior. Which is why Amy Schumer, Blake Lively, Katie Holmes, Shoshanna Keats-Jaskoll, a mother of five living in Israel and Facebook users worldwide are particularly peeved with the following image:

Image: @amyschumer

Girls’ Life magazine promises its tween audience tips on how to “wake up pretty!” and first kiss confessionals. Boys’ Life, meanwhile, encourages young men to explore their future: “Astronaut? Artist? Firefighter? Chef? Here’s how to be what you want to be.” Each glossy targets readers of a very impressionable age, each touts a drastically different message.

Back at the start of September, this side-by-side comparison of recent issues of Girls’ Life and Boys’ Life magazines went viral when Matt Frye, Kansas City native and father of three, noticed the anachronistic display at his local library and snapped a picture. “A sad microcosm of what our society says being a girl vs being a boy means,” he wrote in a Facebook post in which he shared the troubling photo. “With three girls to raise, this breaks my heart. I’ll fight like hell for my girls to not exist in this reality.”

In no time, the post had circled the globe and sparked the incredulity of thousands, including Keats-Jaskoll, who penned an open letter to the editors of Girls’ Life magazine. (Note: The publication is not affiliated with Boys’ Life.) We highly recommend reading the full letter, below, but the basic takeaway is: “WHAT in the name of all that is and ever was good are you teaching girls?? Is this the message you want for your daughters?? You are women. Working, professional women. Is this the message you are proud of? Is this why you became publishers, writers, graphic designers? To tell girls they are the sum of their fashion, makeup, and hair?”

No

A photo posted by @amyschumer on

The tumult surrounding was reignited yesterday when Schumer stumbled upon the photo. Not one to let incidents of sexism slide, the comedian voiced her disapproval on Instagram, her caption a simple but poignant: “No.” One hour later, Lively chimed in, “Wow. Amy Schumer, I second that emotion. Ladies, lets not let this happen anymore.” Not long after Lively’s post, Holmes joined in on the roast, adding “#thisneedstochange.”

In an interview with Refinery29 given on September 2, 2016 BS (Before Schumer), Karen Bokran, founding editor of Girls’ Life, argued her publication should not be judged by its cover: “Are we more than lip gloss and clothes? Of course,” she stated. “It’s OK to like lip gloss or be interested in fashion… I don’t know how [the problem] became either you like lip gloss and clothes or you like being an astronaut.”

Whether Bokran will consider rebranding Girls’ Life now that the Woman of the Year has spoken out against the glossy remains to be seen, but if she does, graphic artist Katherine Young is full of potential content and cover art ideas:

Granted, we’ve never picked up a copy of Girls’ Life so we can’t unequivocally judge the magazine. However, we do know this: It is the responsibility of the media, along with celebrities like Schumer, Holmes and Lively (who often appear on the covers of magazines meant for readers who value both substance and style…and tabloids that don’t) to fill the minds of future generations with inspiration, not inanity.

Amy Schumer and the fashion industry just don’t mix. She couldn’t stand it when one of its major glossies labeled her plus-size, she abhors how retailers treat curvy shoppers, her Freaky Friday swap with Anna Wintour proved near-fatal (walking in stilettos near sharp-cornered furniture is an accident just waiting to happen) and she has no time for the pomp and circumstance of the Met Gala.

Much like Gwyneth Paltrow and Tina Fey before her, who’ve called the exclusive red carpet event “so un-fun” and “a jerk parade,” respectively, Schumer dissed and dismissed the Gala in a recent interview with Howard Stern. “I guess I should be grateful I was invited or something, but yeah, it felt like a punishment. It’s not me and I don’t like it,” she willingly admitted. “We’re dressed up like a bunch of fuckin’ assholes.” (We wonder how Alexander Wang, who dressed Amy for the Gala, took that observation.)

See Every Look From the 2016 Met Gala Red Carpet ]

“It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation. I don’t like the farce,” she elaborated, adding, “I left not the second I could; I left earlier than I should’ve been allowed.”

And just when we’d let out a sigh of relief, knowing we’d never again feel that perennial gala-induced FOMO given how many cool celebrities have now outed it as lame, Schumer revealed that she’d chatted with Beyoncé. “I got to meet Beyoncé and she was like, ‘Is this your first Met?’ and I was like, ‘It’s my last.'” Oh, to see how the ever-poised Queen Bee handled that interaction. Another upside of going to the Met Gala? All the material. On the Monday night in question, Schumer told Vogue’s André Leon Talley she “didn’t think she could avoid” poking fun at the event in the future.

In Amy’s defense, Anna should’ve known that, unlike us sartorial addicts, Schumer couldn’t care less about couture. The recent Vogue cover girl expressed her keen disinterest in fashion in her July 2016 interview: “I don’t think it’s stupid; there’s no moral reasoning,” she said. “It’s just not my thing. I just have this sense of entitlement that I should be able to feel comfortable at all times, like I could go to bed at any moment in what I’m wearing.”

While we are fans of our beds and averse to awkward conversation, we can’t exactly condemn an event that raised $12.5 million for the museum and leaves us with no shortage of eye candy. Do you find Schumer’s comments relatable or disrespectful, given all that Anna and Alexander have done for her? Sound off in the comments below.
