We definitely like what’s happening over at V Magazine. The cutting-edge American fashion publication has been hitting all the right notes lately. Just last month it supplied a series of flawless Anok Yai, Imaan Hammam, Kendall Jenner and Naomi Campbell covers. For its fall preview issue, the magazine gives us several collectible covers featuring eight trailblazers photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and styled by George Cortina. Abby Champion, Vinson Fraley, Ashley Graham, Nyja Abdullah, Eileen Gu, Emily Ratajkowski, Taras Romanov and Hailey Bieber pose for solo covers wearing pieces from the mag’s collaboration with Lois Jeans.

“Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and Abby Champion. I’m sold, thanks,” said dontbeadrag.

“Now that’s a stellar cover! Abby looks fantastic. V Magazine is on a roll with their recent covers, great job,” applauded aracic.

“Abby is absolutely gorgeous and everything on the cover works. Can’t wait to buy this issue!” declared bluestar.

“What an absolute knockout of a cover, genuinely love every single thing about it — from George Cortina’s impeccable styling to Abby’s expression and pose,” raved vogue28.

We’ve become big fans of WSJ. Magazine over the years and quite frankly can’t recall the last time the publication produced a less-than-stellar cover. Whether Kristina O’Neill gives the cover to Gwyneth Paltrow, Adut Akech or Regina King, her choices always receive praise on our forums. Forum fave Ashley Graham is the magazine’s first cover star of 2021 posing before the lens of photographer Ethan James Green for an old-school fashion shoot serving nothing but grace and unapologetic glamour. Dara Allen selected a Michael Kors Collection dress and Cartier jewelry for Ashley to wear while clutching a pair of Roger Vivier heels in the black and white cover image.

Naturally, the cover became an instant hit on our forums. “Glam! Fashion! Big hair! I love it,” heralded annikad.

“The cover is stunning! Ethan never disappoints,” said jorgepalomo.

“Lovely and as close to Steven Meisel as we can get without it being actually shot by him,” dontbeadrag pointed out.

“The cover is sublime, but would have been nicer without the heels dangling there,” declared oaklee91.

Serend1pity was also a fan: “Stunning, I wish she had heels though to elongate her legs.”

“The cover looks great, but I agree that she needed to actually wear the heels and not hold them. Without them she looks short and I’m not getting the glamour angle that they were clearly going for. Still great effort!” applauded Benn98.

The American edition of Harper’s Bazaar has definitely been a topic of conversation on our forums lately. Especially since Glenda Bailey announced her departure and Samira Nasr took the reins. We’ve been obviously anticipating the magazine’s answer to the global pandemic and the wait is finally over. For Summer 2020, the mag treats us to six covers celebrating “Voices of Hope”. Christy Turlington, Allyson Felix, Ashley Graham, Representative Lauren Underwood, Dr. Leana Wen along with Melissa DeRosa were all photographed over Zoom by Mario Sorrenti.

The covers clearly came as a surprise to our forum members. “This isn’t American Harper’s Bazaar for me. As much as I hated Glenda, I must admit I’m already nostalgic for her overly-airbrushed, text-stacked, busy covers…” commented aracic.

“None of the images have the precision you’d expect from a cover shot. Everything looks a little off — awkward posing, clothes that don’t fit and several wouldn’t even make the cut as holiday snaps,” said tigerrouge.

“I am not impressed. I find the covers boring. There’s nothing distinctive about them. Might as well be a random Vogue or a newspaper from IKEA,” scoffed avonlea002.

“The commercial glamour I’ve come to associate with Harper’s Bazaar is totally absent here. But this was shot during a lockdown and global pandemic and it’s several steps above what more respected magazines have been releasing so I’ll take it,” declared KINGofVERSAILLES.

“Finally a change has arrived at U.S. Harper’s Bazaar, love this!” praised Miss Dalloway.

We love ourselves some Ashley Graham and so does British Harper’s Bazaar. Following a series of beautiful and charming covers throughout the first half of 2020, the magazine finally welcomes back the American beauty for July 2020 exactly one year after her last appearance. With the original planned cover shoot scrapped due to social distancing and lockdown measures, Ashley was photographed by her husband Justin Ervin for the occasion captured among the golden grasslands of her childhood Nebraskan home resulting in fresh covers for both the newsstand (below) and subscribers (after the jump).

The covers immediately caught the attention of our forum members. “Oh wow, this is stunning. Their best cover since Justine Picardie left. Truth be told I’m not her biggest fan, but it’s interesting that each and every Bazaar cover of hers has looked great,” approved Benn98.

“I love it!” simply stated amby.

Also full of praise was vogue28: “Hats off to Justin Ervin and the British Harper’s Bazaar team on this! It must’ve been hard for the magazine to just sit back and watch this all unfold via Zoom, but the outcome is truly beautiful and Ashley looks positively radiant as always. So Ashley decided to make finding the perfect dress easier for everyone by creating an inclusive bridal collection with Spanish bridal brand Pronovias. The 16-piece collection doesn’t drop until March, but Ashley gave us a sneak peek on her Instagram. (Pronovias also showed off some of the creations.)

Offering classic silhouettes and ultra glam styles, the devil is in the details, including lace, tulle and beading. And you don’t have to worry about hunting down what you’ll wear under your dream dress since each one boasts a built-in bra and shapewear.

Anna Wintour has been on a roll lately gifting us great covers and some unexpected cover stars. First came an amazing Olivia Colman offering, a glorious Rihanna cover followed, then we were treated to a practically perfect Phoebe Waller-Bridge cover for December. Now the American fashion bible is honoring the fearless faces and forces in the industry with four January 2020 covers. All shot by Annie Leibovitz and styled by Tonne Goodman, the fresh covers feature Stella McCartney, Ashley Graham, Greta Gerwig and a mystery subject to be named later.

Stella’s cover was the first to drop. “This is such a great idea, I know people usually hate kids on covers, but I love that they gave a cover to a female designer. Also this is easily the most natural of Leibovitz’s covers. Bring on the others…” raved Miss Dalloway.

“Seemingly surprising, but actually a very suitable way to start the new decade. Stella McCartney is a pioneer and a tireless advocate for sustainable practices in fashion,” noted dodencebt.

“Come through Anna! She seems to have had some sort of a revelation recently with all these gorgeous covers and surprising cover subjects. Love everything about this!” applauded aracic.

Marc10 felt the same enthusiasm for the cover: “Whoa, Anna has been brave with some unexpected yet awesome cover stars lately! Love this, what a gorgeous, warm image. Really flawless!”

We let out an audible gasp when we found out that Zac Posen would be shutting down his namesake label. The New York fashion designer has been a staple on the red carpet for almost 20 years. Since his eponymous label launched in 2001, Posen has dressed many A-listers in his romantic, flattering and showstopping designs. (We’re talking Michelle Obama, Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rihanna, Katie Holmes and plenty of others.) And there was almost always at least one Zac Posen look at every award show, from the Oscars to the Emmys. Not to mention the Met Gala where the designer’s super structured creations stood out no matter the theme.

So now that the brand is no more, we decided the best way to pay homage was to look back at the designer’s many red carpet highlights.

Just take a look at her covers of British Harper’s Bazaar, Harper’s Bazaar Australia, ELLE, Glamour, British Vogue and the David Yurman Fall 2018 campaign. So how did Allure manage to get it oh so wrong when it came to profiling the supermodel? Shot by Vanina Sorrenti and styled by Alex White, Ashley sports a chunky Chanel sweater, blue eyeshadow and the wet hair look on the mag’s questionable July 2019 cover.

Members of our forums weren’t impressed. “Terrible hair and makeup! And I’m not sure whether the stylist is trying to go for late summer or autumn with that heavy jumper,” pointed out an underwhelmed Benn98.

“A total flop and a missed opportunity. Ashley Graham has one of the most photogenic faces in the industry and Allure (a beauty magazine) decides to go for a body shot,” chimed in vogue28.

“Allure: where shots that wouldn’t even make it into a fashion editorial get chosen for the cover of a beauty magazine. Given how inclusive this magazine tries to be, I wonder if some people will see this and get upset about the message of certain body types covering themselves up for summer,” noted tigerrouge.

“Hate the sweater, but love the hair and makeup,” admitted Bertrando3.

In the same frame of mind was kokobombon: “I don’t like the styling, but I think this might be her first cover where her body doesn’t look too Photoshopped…”

Ashley Graham has an impressive track record on our forums because whether she’s covering Harper’s Bazaar Australia, ELLE or New York Magazine, she works the shot like there’s no tomorrow. So we weren’t surprised to see British Harper’s Bazaar welcome back the body positivity activist with open arms almost 12 months after her last appearance. Photographed by Pamela Hanson and styled by Leith Clark, Ashley is all smiles down on the beach in East Hampton for the joyous newsstand cover (below) and subscribers’ edition (after the jump).

But the covers failed to hit the spot for our forum members. “Ashley is great, but everything about this cover is just… too basic,” complained Wintergreen.

“DULLSVILLE, and so not their brand of English fairy tale (which love or hate at least they have an identity unlike most magazines these days),” stated HeatherAnne.

“I cannot help but feel underwhelmed this time around. The cover image, as joyous and refreshing as it is, looks awkward and… odd. I dislike the cropping and composition of it all, and particularly dislike the teal bikini on Ashley,” voiced vogue28.

Also not jumping for joy was honeycombchild: “These are awful. How on earth did those poses make it to a cover? What a waste of Ashley.”

But there were some who liked the outcome. “Sweet covers for summer. Sometimes just a nice simple cover with a beautiful model is all that’s needed,” pointed out justaguy.

“I really, really love this!” admired June.

“A joyous beachy summer cover? I’m in,” applauded A.D.C.
