After skipping 2020 and scaling back for 2021 due to the pandemic, the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival is back in full force. Which is great for us since it usually produces fashion moments on par with the Met Gala and the Oscars. Although we have to admit, a decent amount of looks were relatively lackluster.

When it comes to designers, certain ones reigned supreme. We witnessed several dresses from Valentino’s Fall 2022 offering, aka the pink collection, take to the red carpet. Sharon Stone stuck with Dolce & Gabbana probably because she stars in the Italian fashion house’s new handbag campaign. As usual, there were plenty of haute couture looks to go around. Fendi, Armani Privé, Elie Saab, Christian Dior and Chanel are just a small sampling. Custom creations were also trending with Cara Delevingne’s revealing Balmain gown one of the standouts.

The jewelry was also something to behold. Especially when it came to necklaces. Julianne Moore’s Bottega Veneta dress was amplified by Bulgari’s Eden The Garden of Wonders necklace, for example.

On the beauty front, hair really turned heads. Bella Hadid’s wet-look hairdo with sculpted strands in the middle of her forehead really made a statement. As did Grace Elizabeth’s piecey pixie.

For 28 years, the annual Hollywood edition of Vanity Fair has been the publication’s most anticipated issue of the year. The magazine’s most iconic covers have been captured by Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, Emmanuel Lubezki, Ethan James Green along with Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari. The photographic duo is back for 2022 profiling eight of Hollywood’s shining stars with eight covers. Nicole Kidman, Idris Elba, Kristen Stewart, Penélope Cruz, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simu Liu, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Andrew Garfield appear on the vibrant and collectible covers.

The covers split our forums. “I love the campiness of these covers,” admired crmsnsnwflks.

“Absolutely love all of them! They are so over the top, but that suits the Hollywood theme perfectly,” [Piece Of Me] points out.

“The retouching is insane, but it suits the plastic glam Hollywood theme they’ve got going. This year they got it right with five of the leading nominees scoring covers,” declared KINGofVERSAILLES.

Not everyone, however, is thrilled. “What I hate about this is that it lacks the humor and the glamour. This just looks goofy and cheap,” said Marc10.

“While I understand the end result is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, fun and kitsch, the overediting is just far too apparent and looks rather cartoonish,” adds vogue28.

“These are so tragic. The direction of the whole thing seems so undignified for ‘serious’ actors,” complained MyNameIs.

“This magazine has become such a parody of itself. The glory days are well and truly gone,” states an unimpressed mepps.

“Vanity Fair as we knew it is long gone so maybe this is the best we’re going to get at this point,” voiced tigerrouge.

Australia supplied a slew of lackluster covers throughout 2021 featuring the likes of Gemma Ward, Selena Gomez, Billie Eilish and Sarah Snook. But things began to turn around to close out 2021 with a delightful Lily Collins offering. And a joyous Adut Akech helped the magazine start 2022 with a bang. For February 2022, the publication welcomes Kristen Stewart to the cover with forum favorite Lachlan Bailey capturing the American actress at a sun-drenched location in Los Angeles. In the soft and dreamy cover image, the Spencer star looks radiant wearing a knitted look from Chanel’s Spring 2022 collection chosen by stylist Christine Centenera.

But the outcome had our forum members at odds. “If Lachlan Bailey can’t get anything out of her, nobody can,” noted an underwhelmed SLFC.

“Where’s the color?” asked MON.

“I love Kristen Stewart and I love her in Chanel, but everything about this is terrible. Awkward pose, dead behind the eyes, dead in the face and it’s beige AF. They can keep it,” said mepps.

“A dead-eyed Kristen Stewart wearing Chanel. Groundbreaking,” echoed A.D.C.

“So amateur. The whole global ‘Youthquake’ theme is as beige and bland as this cover. I don’t think Kristen falls in that category any longer,” dfl-001 pointed out.

“Simple. It works,” declared ivano.

“I like it! Will never complain about Kristen x Chanel and it’s good to see her on a Vogue cover again,” praised [Piece Of Me].

“Quite honestly love this just as much as I did December with Lily Collins! There isn’t one element I dislike. Always loved Kristen Stewart when dressed in Chanel and Lachlan Bailey’s lighting and coloring is just divine — as per usual,” raved vogue28.

Sara Moonves continues to ensure W makes an impression down at newsstands. The magazine has secured plenty of A-list talent for its front covers, including everyone from Dolly Parton to Beanie Feldstein. To start 2022 off with a bang, the title drops its annual edition dedicated to best performances bestowing upon us 10 collectible covers. This year’s lineup includes Kristen Stewart, Denzel Washington, Benedict Cumberbatch, Gemma Chan, Jessica Chastain, Adam Driver, Honor Swinton Byrne, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Hudson all photographed by Tim Walker.

Naturally, only a few stood out. “Kristen looks good, usually that bored face never helps her, but it was a good thing in that vintage vibe!” declared DK92.

“The Tilda cover is, as usual, stunning and probably my favorite of the bunch. I also like Cate and Kristen…” noted [Piece Of Me].

“Oh, I just love that Kristen Stewart cover! Love when she gets some proper styling and the retro wig looks stunning on her,” aracic pointed out.

Kristen’s cover also caught the attention of vogue28: “Absolutely love how Kristen Stewart has photographed for this (and I’m not even a Tim Walker fan), love the yellow Chanel, the voluminous hairdo and the strong sense of retro glamour. My most favorite cover from the bunch…”

Everyone else expected better, however. “All these covers do not appeal to me. They look awful. Just like the magazine itself. Kind of surprised this magazine still exists,” stated cottonmouth13.

“Every single cover sucks. All of them,” disapproved mepps.

“I find this quite mediocre…photography, styling, art direction. Pretty tragic,” proclaimed Lola701.

With a theme like “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” we weren’t sure what to expect when it came to the 2021 Met Gala. Unlike previous years when the dress code was more established, many attendees decided to go rogue. Sure, some went with patriotic options. Hence red and blue being popular choices. But a large percentage just dressed to impress, er, stand out.

There were plenty of American designers on display. Jennifer Lopez served up some real 70s glamour in Ralph Lauren. Kate Hudson’s pink Michael Kors Collection ensemble also turned heads. And Amanda Gorman’s blue Vera Wang stunner was a striking nod to the Statue of Liberty.

There was certainly a lot of skin. The naked dress was back in a big way with everyone from Kendall Jenner to Irina Shayk indulging in the trend. Others decided to flash flesh in far more strategic ways.

You may find it hard to believe that we’re 10 months into 2020 and Kristen Stewart hasn’t made a notable appearance down at the newsstand. But that’s all about to change with the unveiling of InStyle‘s latest. Our forum members have been singing the American glossy’s praises lately following a series of triumphant covers starring Cynthia Erivo, Zendaya and Alicia Keys. Now Kristen fronts the mag’s November 2020 issue with two covers both photographed by Olivia Malone. Styled by Rebecca Ramsey, the actress sports a red number from Christopher John Rogers for the delightful newsstand cover (below) and strikes a pose under clear blue skies in Michael Kors Collection for the subscribers’ alternative (after the jump).

The covers divided our forums. “‘Who showed up’…definitely not the makeup artist and hairstylist,” mocked MON.

“Neither did Kristen Stewart, but then again that’s true to form,” replied Benn98. “It’s beyond me how this person continues to book covers and campaigns when she’s the least photogenic with the least likable personality. She hasn’t had a good hair day since Twilight.”

“She has the same photogenic allure as Alicia Vikander. Exciting as watching paint dry,” added WAVES.

“What a mess,” declared an unimpressed jal718.

But not everyone was underwhelmed. “Actually, it’s gorgeous! One of her best covers! I love the color and she looks sooooo great,” admired fluxxx.

In the same frame of mind was vogue28: “Always been a fan of Kristen Stewart and therefore like seeing her on magazine covers — and this is no exception. The subscribers’ cover is atrocious, but the newsstand alternative is far better, love the lighting for a November cover, which perfectly resembles the autumn lighting outside right now.”

We are all well aware that Kristen Stewart is affiliated with Chanel. Upon signing on the dotted line back in 2013, Stewart was immediately put to work shooting with the late Karl Lagerfeld for various advertising campaigns. Recently, we’ve been treated to a series of campaigns featuring models of the moment, but now Stewart is back showcasing the brand’s Spring 2020 collection. Photographed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, the actress strikes a pose before a minimalist gray backdrop.

The campaign didn’t impress our forum members. “She looks so uncomfortable and stiff. That outfit also doesn’t suit her at all,” critiqued Nomar.

“The collection was bad, the campaign is bad… And Jean-Baptiste Mondino? Really? After the flawless Karim Sadli campaigns? Chanel is definitely off my radar. In one year they have ruined the magic that took 30 years to be solidified,” proclaimed a frustrated Lola701.

“Who wants to look like that?” wondered Conbothsides.

“Never liked Kristen in general, never liked her messy look and never understood how she became Chanel’s principal ambassador when she clearly doesn’t care about fashion and doesn’t have any allure,” admitted apple.

“This campaign is just awful. I just wish the fashion industry would just hire actual fashion models for their campaigns rather than hiring these inappropriate celebrities and social media girls,” Greyyyyy chimed in.

In the same frame of mind was Mercury6181: “Very stale and boring, nothing exciting is happening in this campaign so far. This is a prime example of the talent models bring to a shoot. Any of the Chanel girls, Vittoria, Adut, Rianne, etc., would’ve made this campaign way more intriguing.”

Following an underwhelming 20th anniversary celebration back in August, the magazine unveils its Winter 2019 installment starring the three actresses from the upcoming Charlie’s Angels remake: Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska. The trio huddle together in the Carin Backoff-shot cover, each wearing a crop top from Chanel and a pair of Guess blue jeans picked by Karen Langley.

But the cover was a big flop on our forums. “Crikey, what have they done to the flawless Naomi Scott? Everything is a miss, from the hair to the makeup to the styling,” ranted Benn98 the moment the cover dropped.

“Does anyone buy this magazine? This is pure trash now,” called out caioherrero.

“I like the idea of jeans with Chanel…but this is still a little too Glamour magazine for me,” said Xone.

Nomar was also quick to critique the styling: “They look like a bunch of rich teenagers trying to be edgy.”

MON wasn’t impressed by the cover shot, either. “What an utter disservice to the beauty of Naomi and Ella. They should have never extended the logo beyond their faces.”

“The Chanel tops paired with Guess jeans was a good call; teenagers will probably eat it right up just like they will this unnecessary remake,” commented dodencebt.

Forum member phungnam96 simply called the cover “basic.”
