The show must go on. And indeed it did as the decision was made to proceed with the Tony Awards last night after the tragic mass shooting in Orlando. Of course, the horrible act was referenced throughout the evening, beginning with host James Corden’s poignant opening. Several winners addressed the tragedy in their acceptance speeches and a performance of the hit Hamilton was put on without any muskets.

When it came to the fashion, there were a surprising amount of risk-takers in attendance. A floor-length sash, a jazzed-up jacket and strategic cut-outs were all spotted. Vivid colors and heavy embellishments were relatively common sights. There were also some traditional and nontraditional suits (including one dynamic version sported by an actress). It was a who’s who of journalists and Washington, D.C. insiders last night at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, but we were a little blinded by the star power. Everyone from TV actresses to movie stars and even a bevy of models hit the red carpet inside the Washington Hilton gearing up to listen to both President Obama and Saturday Night Live’s Cecily Strong crack wise to the crowd. The variety of dresses at this year’s so-called Nerd Prom added some spice to the proceedings with attendees stepping out in a mix of rich colors and stark neutrals.
