It’s universally known that if you want to be a model, you’ve got to be tall. For a lot of us, 5’9″ is a pretty good height, but in the fashion industry, that’s on the shorter side for a model. That doesn’t mean, however, that girls who aren’t blessed with longer legs can’t still have successful careers. In fact, there are plenty of women who have proved that, although they might not stand as tall as most models, they can still make it–like these 17 top models, all of whom are under 5’9″:

1. Lily-Rose Depp

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | TAYLOR HILL/GETTY IMAGES

Lily-Rose Depp may only be 5’3″, but she looms large in Karl Lagerfeld’s mind. The Chanel muse has walked many a tweed-filled runway (Haute Couture Spring 2017, Pre-Fall 2017, Haute Couture Fall 2015) and starred in various beauty and eyewear campaigns for the brand. Depp has already graced a fair number of magazine covers, among them Jalouse, LOVE, V Magazine, Vogue Paris, British Vogue, ELLE France, ELLE Greece and Vanity Fair France. We suppose she has her equally petite, preternaturally beautiful mom to thank.

2. Lottie Moss

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | TAYLOR HILL/GETTY IMAGES

Much like her big sister Kate Moss, Lottie Moss has risen within the industry despite being (somewhat) vertically challenged. (Needless to say, the family affiliation didn’t hurt.) The 5’6″ British beauty has fronted campaigns for Topshop, Chanel, Bulgari and RED Valentino. She’s walked the runways of Sonia Rykiel, Topshop Unique and Chanel and graced a handful of covers, the most notable being Vogue Paris’ May 2016 edition, which she shared with fellow genetically #blessed millennial Lucky Blue Smith.

3. Hailey Bieber

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | PASCAL LE SEGRETAIN/GETTY IMAGES

Instagirl Hailey Bieber is one of the most visible models of our time thanks (in part) to the 5’7″ blonde’s close friendship with the Jenner and Hadid sisters – and being married to Justin Bieber. Nevertheless, the IMG signee — who’s walked for the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Jeremy Scott, Prabal Gurung, Elie Saab, Tory Burch, Off-White, Zadig & Voltaire and Tommy Hilfiger — has more than earned her stripes. She has fronted campaigns for Guess, Karl Lagerfeld, Tommy Jeans, Calvin Klein, Versace, Miu Miu, UGG. In June 2022, the American beauty unveiled Rhode – a line of efficacious, intentional skincare essentials.

4. Sofia Richie Grainge

Sofia Richie Grainge (daughter of Lionel Richie) is successfully forged her own identity in the modeling industry and now considered a style icon. The 5’6″, beauty has fronted Complex, Wonderland, Town & Country, walked the runways of Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Yeezy and Philipp Plein and appeared in the pages of W, V Magazine, Vogue Japan and Seventeen, among others.

5. Adwoa Aboah

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | LIA TOBY/GETTY IMAGES

Freckle-faced Ghanaian-British beauty Adwoa Aboah is a force to be reckoned with. The 5’8″ 24-year-old is a Vogue (and Vogue.com) favorite thanks to her fresh, rebellious personal style. Not that she needed the validation. Aboah has walked nearly every runway of note (Miu Miu, Chanel, Christian Dior, Fenty x Puma, Versace, Fendi, Moschino, Marc Jacobs, Kenzo) and starred in countless high-profile campaigns (Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Sephora). In 2017, Aboah jumped to the silver screen as Ghost in the Shell’s Lia.

6. Rose Bertram

IMAGE | MIKE COPPOLA/GETTY IMAGES

Rose Bertram, a 5’7″ bombshell known for her curly mane and killer curves, is a favorite of Sports Illustrated, LOVE, H&M and Jeremy Scott. The IMG signee and Instagirl on the rise has also worked with beauty giant L’Oréal Paris and luxury lingerie retailer Agent Provocateur, among others.

7. Sara Sampaio

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | MIKE MARSLAND/GETTY IMAGES

As far as Victoria’s Secret Angels go, 5’8″ Sara Sampaio is a bit on the “short” side. Still, Portugal’s most photogenic export is a mainstay on the international catwalks. In 2017, she’s strutted Balmain, Mugler, Elie Saab, Alberta Ferretti, Baja East, Marchesa, Tory Burch, Prabal Gurung and Tommy Hilfiger. Her list of recent campaign appearances is almost as long-winded — Moroccanoil, Victoria’s Secret, Blumarine, Hogan… Oh, and she’s already got Vogue, LOVE and Editorialist features under her belt.

8. Emily Ratajkowski

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | KARWAI TANG/GETTY IMAGES

You’ve definitely had an eyeful of 5’7″ Emily Ratajkowski — you’ll remember her from 2013’s controversial “Blurred Lines” music video and 2014’s movie adaptation of Gone Girl. But Ratajkowski’s a model first. Her formidable CV includes a turn on Miu Miu’s Fall 2016 runway, a spot in Marc Jacobs’ sprawling Spring 2016 ad campaign and stints on the covers of CR Fashion Book, GQ Spain and British Vogue. Oh, and she’s a firm fave of Donatella Versace.

9. Marisa Miller

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | JON KOPALOFF/GETTY IMAGES

Marisa Miller would be a babe no matter her height, which is 5’8″, to be exact. The American fashion model is known best for looking scrumptious in Sports Illustrated and for Victoria’s Secret.

10. Kate Moss

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | DIMITRIOS KAMBOURIS/GETTY IMAGES

Kate Moss is an industry icon, which is amazing, considering shes’ only 5’7″. But her keen modeling abilities and dangerous, cool-girl vibe we all wish we had have turned her into one of the most successful faces in the world.

11. Cara Delevingne

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | ARTURO HOLMES/GETTY IMAGES

Cara Delevingne‘s height has been reported to be anywhere between 5’7″ and 5’8″. One thing’s for sure, she’s definitely not traditional runway height. Her agent once tried to get her cast in Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2012 show, but she was cut when Marc Jacobs asked, “Why is that dwarf in there?”

12. Devon Aoki

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | CINDY ORD/GETTY IMAGES

Devon Aoki is one of the shortest high fashion models out there, and has enjoyed a lot of success through her career. In the late 90s, she became the face of Versace and also posed for Chanel, Kenzo, Moschino, Fendi and many more. How tall is she? Just 5’5″.

13. Camille Rowe

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | KEVIN MAZUR/GETTY IMAGES

Camille Rowe has landed campaigns with Chloé, Aldo, Dior Homme, H&M and more, as well as multiple covers of ELLE France. She’s also posed for Victoria’s Secret at only 5’7″. Not bad for a “short” girl, right?

14. Lila Moss

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | DAVE KOTINSKY/GETTY IMAGES

After posing alongside her model mother Kate Moss on Vogue Italia’s July 2016 edition, it was only a matter of time before Lila Moss reached superstardom. At 5’3″, Lila has secured campaigns for a whole multitude of fashion houses including Ermanno Scervino, Versace, Marc Jacobs and appeared on the magazine covers of British Vogue, Vogue Japan and Vanity Fair Italia to name a select few.

15. Liberty Ross

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | KARWAI TANG/GETTY IMAGES

Liberty Ross‘ 5’6″ frame certainly was not a problem for Burberry, Emanuel Ungaro or Jimmy Choo–they all chose her to front their campaigns.

16. Lydia Hearst

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | AMANDA EDWARDS/GETTY IMAGES

While it helps that your family is one of the most powerful in the publishing industry when you’re trying to start a modeling career, Lydia Hearst has had a lot of success–not because of her name. She’s landed campaigns for Juicy Couture, Pringle of Scotland, Swarovski and more. Not to mention the sizeable amount of print work she’s done for international versions of VogueMarie ClaireElle and more. The 5’7″ Hearst has been so successful, that she was chosen to be a mentor for season 2 of Naomi Campbell’s modeling reality competition, The Face.

17. Laetitia Casta

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | STEPHANE CARDINALE-CORBIS/GETTY IMAGES

Laetitia Casta has had a tremendously successful career in spite of her 5’6″ height. The credits are as far as the eye can see: A contract with L’Oréal Paris, a stint as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, covers of Vogue, ELLE, i-D as well as jobs modeling for Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Roberto CavalliVivienne Westwood and countless others.

There was the usual mix of models, actors, singers, designers and social media influencers at this year’s The Fashion Awards aka the British Fashion Awards. While we were treated to pops of color courtesy of Rihanna, Emilia Clarke and newly minted Model of the Year Adut Akech, the majority of the red carpet looks were pretty black and white. But sequins, ethereal layers and cut-outs kept things interesting. The real scene-stealers were the puffer gown and puffer skirt worn by Shailene Woodley and Liya Kebede, respectively.

See who won big below (one designer really cleaned up), then check out the slideshow above to see who wore what.

  • Award for Positive Change: Signatories of the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action
  • Brand of the Year: Bottega Veneta
  • British Emerging Talent Menswear: Bethany Williams for Bethany Williams
  • British Emerging Talent Womenswear: Rejina Pyo for Rejina Pyo
  • Urban Luxe: Fenty
  • Business Leader: Remo Ruffini for Moncler
  • Fashion Icon: Naomi Campbell
  • Accessories Designer of the Year: Daniel Lee for Bottega Veneta

The outfits at this year’s festival were pretty much as expected. (Except for Beyoncé’s Balmain stage getups, which slayed…twice.) While cutoffs and crop tops were practically everywhere, double denim was another big trend. We also spotted lots of Victoria’s Secret models sporting Victoria’s Secret gear (natch) — it pays to represent a brand at Coachella. While the second weekend wasn’t as jam-packed with stars, the second round of Beyoncé did bring out a few heavy hitters that were missing in action from weekend one. For all the festival fashion highlights, check out the slideshow above.

If the Met Gala is equivalent to the Oscars in the fashion world, then the Cannes International Film Festival would be like the Golden Globes. Or all of Haute Couture Fashion Week set against the backdrop of the French Riviera. Whatever way you frame it, there’s no denying that the festival produces a cavalcade of luxe gowns from some of the biggest fashion houses around. We’re talking Chanel, Elie Saab, Christian Dior, Versace, Armani…you get the idea. But this year, two of the biggest wow moments came courtesy of two relative unknowns — Michael Cinco and Michael Halpern.

Trains were popular and grand with celebs going to great lengths to make a statement (and causing extra work for those underappreciated dress fluffers). The see-through trend was still going strong, though thankfully, most pieces did a good job camouflaging attendees’ private parts. We saw a few jumpsuits/pantsuits this go-round, mostly pulled off with great aplomb. A couple of wedding dresses found their way to the festival, which surprisingly translated pretty well to the red carpet. For all the top fashion highlights from the past week, check out the jam-packed slideshow above.

This year, Angels took over Indio. Sure, we often see quite a few Victoria’s Secret models on the grounds at Coachella (Alessandra Ambrosio, we’re looking at you), but this go-round the brand actually set up shop in the desert the first weekend to flaunt its Sexy Little Things line. So, lacy bralettes were pretty commonplace as were crop tops, cutoffs and all manner of floppy hats. Denim on denim was trending in flashback fashion, although we were quite surprised to see 90s fave shortalls making a strong comeback at the festival. Some were worn straight-on, while other attendees opted to go old school and sport one strap loose. Regardless, we’re predicting they’ll turn into a spring/summer staple this season. While the star power definitely dimmed during the festival’s second weekend, we still spotted a few celebs decked out in memorable fare, like straw hats and extremely short shorts. For all the festival fashion from this year’s Coachella (plus a tally of Kylie Jenner’s ever-changing hair color), check out the jam-packed slideshow above.

Lottie Moss has had plenty experience posing for the likes of Vogue Paris, Harper’s Bazaar Russia, Calvin Klein and Bvlgari. Considering half-sister Kate Moss‘ history with both Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld, it should come as no surprise that the 19-year-old was Lagerfeld’s choice to follow in the footsteps of Willow Smith, Lily-Rose Depp and Kristen Stewart for his new Chanel eyewear campaign.

IMAGE: CRFASHIONBOOK.COM

Lottie’s latest has left our forums divided. “Chanel has the ugliest eyewear of all brands! My gawd, they are really cheap looking 99% of the times. Whoever is in charge of it should get fired,” proclaimed a far from impressed Creative.

“Just no,” stated an uninterested 333101.

“Don’t tell me Karl’s going to adopt her as his latest muse for the next few seasons, before someone else takes his fancy. Could he not just get another cat?” asked tigerrouge, making it clear she’s no fan of the younger Moss sister.

Lola701 reminded us of Lottie’s history with the brand: “I prefer when we don’t see her eyes as they are kinda dead. As the face of Chanel… it doesn’t surprise me. She walked in one of their shows with Kate when she was a child. Full circle!”

“Looks like his Fendi campaign this season [with Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid and Vittoria Ceretti],” pointed out Nomar, in reference to the girly hairstyle.

Benn98 was won over: “My knives were already sharpened when I read the thread title, but I can’t say I hate it. She looks great here and carries off the Lolita vibe much better than Bella/Gigi//Vittoria. Love the finished effect, and the quirkiness of it all.”

Zoom agrees, “Somehow this works. I am liking Lottie for Chanel.”

Lottie Moss is somewhat new to the game but continues to build a portfolio most other models could only dream of. She already has a cover of Vogue Paris under her belt, was just announced as the face of Chanel’s upcoming eyewear campaign and now appears on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Russia — letting us know she’s more than just Kate Moss’ little sister. The 19-year-old posed for the February issue, shot by Rachell Smith, resulting in a glitzy, glamorous cover shot.

IMAGE: FASHIONEDITORIALS.COM

Did Lottie’s latest impress our opinionated forum members? “She looks like a teen super villain on a budget TV show! Have Lottie Moss’ team decided yet how they want to market her? Because so far it looks like they’re stabbing in the dark — we already have an Elle Fanning! I like the icy-blonde on her, but not the styling!” posted a far from impressed Benn98.

“Oh, why?” asked a horrified narcyza, suggesting Russian Bazaar was just jumping on the bandwagon.

Questioning her modeling chops was 333101, saying, “Just because her half-sister is Kate Moss doesn’t mean she can be a model too, I’m bored to tears hearing about her.”

“The background reminds me of a cheap beauty advert,” critiqued MON.

Magsaddict was confused by her appeal. “The styling and composition does nothing for me, although it’s not awful by any stretch. I’m amazed as usual at Lottie’s decent amount of work with legitimate brands and magazines. I wonder how this came about?” he questioned.

“A little too heavy for a February cover but it’s not the worst magazine cover I’ve ever seen, and Lottie does look undeniably good here,” voiced vogue28.

Rain at Glastonbury is like cutoffs at Coachella — it’s pretty much a given. But Worthy Farm received quite the deluge this year, forcing epic travel delays to the famous venue. With the damp conditions, the hottest accessory was definitely mud-caked wellies. Slickers were also a common site, frequently hiding ensembles that we’re sure attendees spent weeks putting together. The weather even persuaded several celebs to do same-day wardrobe changes to keep up with the often fluctuating forecast. If you traveled to Hollywood over the past week to do some stargazing, you were basically out of luck. Why? Because pretty much every A-list celeb was over in France at the annual Cannes International Film Festival — or so it seemed (if you don’t believe us, just check out the 90-plus slides above). The Clooneys held court at the Money Monster premiere, jury members Kirsten Dunst and Vanessa Paradis flexed their style muscles repeatedly while checking out the contenders and the L’Oréal Paris ambassadors represented the cosmetics giant throughout the festival in grand fashion. And we were a bit surprised to see all the risqué behavior at the notoriously conservative festival, from Julia Roberts ascending the Cannes staircase barefoot to one basically naked dress courtesy of Kendall Jenner. While Cannes regulars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor impressed as always, Araya A. Hargate and Li Yuchun really took the “go big or go home” mantra to heart by stepping out in several eye-popping pieces. We’ve got Cannes covered, so all you have to do to witness all the top style moments is simply scroll through our slideshow.

Obviously, the cover begged for immediate debate. “LOL! This is so bad! What would Alt do without this grey background… Lottie gets the cover and Raquel [Zimmermann] doesn’t? Where the hell is justice? I thought Kendall’s cover was the worst… apparently, not!” complained a furious KissMiss straight away.

“Absolutely horrible. I couldn’t think of worse ‘models’ to put on a cover. Indeed, even worse than Kendall,” added Les_Sucettes.

Also unwilling to show support was SpeakThatJDunn: “WHAT EVEN IS THIS?! This is the definition of desperate! Kate Moss’ little sister, and an average teenage male model who young girls follow on Instagram? It’s actually embarrassing. Vogue Paris is in the pits. How can you work for the magazine and think this is a good idea? Do they have no self-respect? No artistic integrity? Shameful.”

Forum member ada_looo shared the same sentiments, announcing, “This magazine is dying.”

In the same frame of mind was Creative. “Each month I think Vogue Paris can’t get worse, that doing something more out of touch is nearly impossible, but it does get worse,” he ranted.

“Words cannot describe how utterly disappointed I am right now. What a safe and lazy cover. Terrible… Who’s next, Zayn and Gigi? Justin and the Baldwin girl?” asked a horrified MON.

Stay tuned for more from Vogue Paris’ May 2016 edition and join the conversation here.
