17 Short Models Who Made It Big

It’s universally known that if you want to be a model, you’ve got to be tall. For a lot of us, 5’9″ is a pretty good height, but in the fashion industry, that’s on the shorter side for a model. That doesn’t mean, however, that girls who aren’t blessed with longer legs can’t still have successful careers. In fact, there are plenty of women who have proved that, although they might not stand as tall as most models, they can still make it–like these 17 top models, all of whom are under 5’9″:

1. Lily-Rose Depp

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | TAYLOR HILL/GETTY IMAGES

Lily-Rose Depp may only be 5’3″, but she looms large in Karl Lagerfeld’s mind. The Chanel muse has walked many a tweed-filled runway (Haute Couture Spring 2017, Pre-Fall 2017, Haute Couture Fall 2015) and starred in various beauty and eyewear campaigns for the brand. Depp has already graced a fair number of magazine covers, among them Jalouse, LOVE, V Magazine, Vogue Paris, British Vogue, ELLE France, ELLE Greece and Vanity Fair France. We suppose she has her equally petite, preternaturally beautiful mom to thank.

2. Lottie Moss

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | TAYLOR HILL/GETTY IMAGES

Much like her big sister Kate Moss, Lottie Moss has risen within the industry despite being (somewhat) vertically challenged. (Needless to say, the family affiliation didn’t hurt.) The 5’6″ British beauty has fronted campaigns for Topshop, Chanel, Bulgari and RED Valentino. She’s walked the runways of Sonia Rykiel, Topshop Unique and Chanel and graced a handful of covers, the most notable being Vogue Paris’ May 2016 edition, which she shared with fellow genetically #blessed millennial Lucky Blue Smith.

3. Hailey Bieber

17 Short Models Who Made It Big

Instagirl Hailey Bieber is one of the most visible models of our time thanks (in part) to the 5’7″ blonde’s close friendship with the Jenner and Hadid sisters – and being married to Justin Bieber. Nevertheless, the IMG signee — who’s walked for the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Jeremy Scott, Prabal Gurung, Elie Saab, Tory Burch, Off-White, Zadig & Voltaire and Tommy Hilfiger — has more than earned her stripes. She has fronted campaigns for Guess, Karl Lagerfeld, Tommy Jeans, Calvin Klein, Versace, Miu Miu, UGG. In June 2022, the American beauty unveiled Rhode – a line of efficacious, intentional skincare essentials.

4. Sofia Richie Grainge

Sofia Richie Grainge (daughter of Lionel Richie) is successfully forged her own identity in the modeling industry and now considered a style icon. The 5’6″, beauty has fronted Complex, Wonderland, Town & Country, walked the runways of Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Yeezy and Philipp Plein and appeared in the pages of W, V Magazine, Vogue Japan and Seventeen, among others.

5. Adwoa Aboah

17 Short Models Who Made It Big

Freckle-faced Ghanaian-British beauty Adwoa Aboah is a force to be reckoned with. The 5’8″ 24-year-old is a Vogue (and Vogue.com) favorite thanks to her fresh, rebellious personal style. Not that she needed the validation. Aboah has walked nearly every runway of note (Miu Miu, Chanel, Christian Dior, Fenty x Puma, Versace, Fendi, Moschino, Marc Jacobs, Kenzo) and starred in countless high-profile campaigns (Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Sephora). In 2017, Aboah jumped to the silver screen as Ghost in the Shell’s Lia.

6. Rose Bertram

Rose Bertram, a 5’7″ bombshell known for her curly mane and killer curves, is a favorite of Sports Illustrated, LOVE, H&M and Jeremy Scott. The IMG signee and Instagirl on the rise has also worked with beauty giant L’Oréal Paris and luxury lingerie retailer Agent Provocateur, among others.

7. Sara Sampaio

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | MIKE MARSLAND/GETTY IMAGES

As far as Victoria’s Secret Angels go, 5’8″ Sara Sampaio is a bit on the “short” side. Still, Portugal’s most photogenic export is a mainstay on the international catwalks. In 2017, she’s strutted Balmain, Mugler, Elie Saab, Alberta Ferretti, Baja East, Marchesa, Tory Burch, Prabal Gurung and Tommy Hilfiger. Her list of recent campaign appearances is almost as long-winded — Moroccanoil, Victoria’s Secret, Blumarine, Hogan… Oh, and she’s already got Vogue, LOVE and Editorialist features under her belt.

8. Emily Ratajkowski

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | KARWAI TANG/GETTY IMAGES

You’ve definitely had an eyeful of 5’7″ Emily Ratajkowski — you’ll remember her from 2013’s controversial “Blurred Lines” music video and 2014’s movie adaptation of Gone Girl. But Ratajkowski’s a model first. Her formidable CV includes a turn on Miu Miu’s Fall 2016 runway, a spot in Marc Jacobs’ sprawling Spring 2016 ad campaign and stints on the covers of CR Fashion Book, GQ Spain and British Vogue. Oh, and she’s a firm fave of Donatella Versace.

9. Marisa Miller

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | JON KOPALOFF/GETTY IMAGES

Marisa Miller would be a babe no matter her height, which is 5’8″, to be exact. The American fashion model is known best for looking scrumptious in Sports Illustrated and for Victoria’s Secret.

10. Kate Moss

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | DIMITRIOS KAMBOURIS/GETTY IMAGES

Kate Moss is an industry icon, which is amazing, considering shes’ only 5’7″. But her keen modeling abilities and dangerous, cool-girl vibe we all wish we had have turned her into one of the most successful faces in the world.

11. Cara Delevingne

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | ARTURO HOLMES/GETTY IMAGES

Cara Delevingne‘s height has been reported to be anywhere between 5’7″ and 5’8″. One thing’s for sure, she’s definitely not traditional runway height. Her agent once tried to get her cast in Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2012 show, but she was cut when Marc Jacobs asked, “Why is that dwarf in there?”

12. Devon Aoki

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | CINDY ORD/GETTY IMAGES

Devon Aoki is one of the shortest high fashion models out there, and has enjoyed a lot of success through her career. In the late 90s, she became the face of Versace and also posed for Chanel, Kenzo, Moschino, Fendi and many more. How tall is she? Just 5’5″.

13. Camille Rowe

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | KEVIN MAZUR/GETTY IMAGES

Camille Rowe has landed campaigns with Chloé, Aldo, Dior Homme, H&M and more, as well as multiple covers of ELLE France. She’s also posed for Victoria’s Secret at only 5’7″. Not bad for a “short” girl, right?

14. Lila Moss

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | DAVE KOTINSKY/GETTY IMAGES

After posing alongside her model mother Kate Moss on Vogue Italia’s July 2016 edition, it was only a matter of time before Lila Moss reached superstardom. At 5’3″, Lila has secured campaigns for a whole multitude of fashion houses including Ermanno Scervino, Versace, Marc Jacobs and appeared on the magazine covers of British Vogue, Vogue Japan and Vanity Fair Italia to name a select few.

15. Liberty Ross

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | KARWAI TANG/GETTY IMAGES

Liberty Ross‘ 5’6″ frame certainly was not a problem for Burberry, Emanuel Ungaro or Jimmy Choo–they all chose her to front their campaigns.

16. Lydia Hearst

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | AMANDA EDWARDS/GETTY IMAGES

While it helps that your family is one of the most powerful in the publishing industry when you’re trying to start a modeling career, Lydia Hearst has had a lot of success–not because of her name. She’s landed campaigns for Juicy Couture, Pringle of Scotland, Swarovski and more. Not to mention the sizeable amount of print work she’s done for international versions of VogueMarie ClaireElle and more. The 5’7″ Hearst has been so successful, that she was chosen to be a mentor for season 2 of Naomi Campbell’s modeling reality competition, The Face.

17. Laetitia Casta

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | STEPHANE CARDINALE-CORBIS/GETTY IMAGES

Laetitia Casta has had a tremendously successful career in spite of her 5’6″ height. The credits are as far as the eye can see: A contract with L’Oréal Paris, a stint as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, covers of Vogue, ELLE, i-D as well as jobs modeling for Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Roberto CavalliVivienne Westwood and countless others.

2022 Cannes International Film Festival

After skipping 2020 and scaling back for 2021 due to the pandemic, the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival is back in full force. Which is great for us since it usually produces fashion moments on par with the Met Gala and the Oscars. Although we have to admit, a decent amount of looks were relatively lackluster.

When it comes to designers, certain ones reigned supreme. We witnessed several dresses from Valentino’s Fall 2022 offering, aka the pink collection, take to the red carpet. Sharon Stone stuck with Dolce & Gabbana probably because she stars in the Italian fashion house’s new handbag campaign. As usual, there were plenty of haute couture looks to go around. Fendi, Armani Privé, Elie Saab, Christian Dior and Chanel are just a small sampling. Custom creations were also trending with Cara Delevingne’s revealing Balmain gown one of the standouts.

The jewelry was also something to behold. Especially when it came to necklaces. Julianne Moore’s Bottega Veneta dress was amplified by Bulgari’s Eden The Garden of Wonders necklace, for example.

On the beauty front, hair really turned heads. Bella Hadid’s wet-look hairdo with sculpted strands in the middle of her forehead really made a statement. As did Grace Elizabeth’s piecey pixie.

Keep reading to see all the must-see looks from the premieres at the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival.

Cannes International Film FestivalForget the Oscars and the Met Gala. The Cannes International Film Festival is the epitome of glamour. The mantra “Go big or go home” was practically coined for the annual star-studded gathering. Although the 2020 edition was canceled due to the health crisis, last year it returned on a much smaller scale. (Although Bella Hadid still manged to deliver two amazing looks.) The good news? This week the festival returns, hopefully with a bang. So we decided to reflect back on the greatest looks ever to hit the French Riviera before the 2022 festivities get underway. We’re talking epic feathered trains, sculpted skirts, decadent embroidery and eye-catching embellished bodices. And let’s not forget all the dazzling jewelry. Fashion institutions Stéphane Rolland, Ralph & Russo, Atelier Versace, Gucci and Jean Paul Gaultier are all well-represented as their pieces are often designed for a grand stage like the Cannes International Film Festival. From A-list actresses to an iconic princess, these looks are emblazoned into our memories as some of the best, not just of Cannes, but of all time. Ready to take a look back through time? Then scroll down to relive the most breathtaking looks to ever grace the festival’s red carpet.

2022 Met Gala

After skipping 2020 and scaling back a bit in 2021, we expected the 2022 Met Gala to really bring the drama. Not to mention the fashion. Thankfully, we aren’t disappointed.

Continuing the theme of “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” there was plenty of gilded glamour. There were corsets, structured skirts and opera gloves galore. But there were several stars who either downright ignored the theme or tried to put a modern spin on it. For example, Janelle Monáe’s Ralph Lauren look was a futuristic interpretation.

We spotted a surprising amount of cut-out accents. We were also taken aback by the sheer volume of see-through sections. (See what we did there?) Kim Kardashian certainly turned heads decked out in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Jean Louis dress.

Both Blake Lively and Sydney Sweeney did an outfit reveal on the red carpet. The former rocked two Atelier Versace creations that paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty. The latter transformed her Tory Burch gown into a minidress.

Suits were also popular. Cara Delevingne, Irina Shayk and Chloë Grace Moretz all stepped out in striking style. It was actually a welcome contrast to all the dynamic dresses.

It’s definitely worth your time to scroll down to see all the crazy, sexy and totally cool looks from the 2022 Met Gala.

There was the usual mix of models, actors, singers, designers and social media influencers at this year’s The Fashion Awards aka the British Fashion Awards. While we were treated to pops of color courtesy of Rihanna, Emilia Clarke and newly minted Model of the Year Adut Akech, the majority of the red carpet looks were pretty black and white. But sequins, ethereal layers and cut-outs kept things interesting. The real scene-stealers were the puffer gown and puffer skirt worn by Shailene Woodley and Liya Kebede, respectively. See who won big below (one designer really cleaned up), then check out the slideshow above to see who wore what.

Bats, witches and vampires? More like queens, scary clowns and celebs dressing up as other stars. Celebs really went all out for Halloween this year. They brought their spooky A games complete with tricks and treats.

Our favorites? Nina Dobrev and friend recreating Gigi Hadid’s superhero effort to get rid of that now infamous Chanel runway crasher. Halsey made for a rather convincing Marilyn Manson and Ciara and Russell Wilson’s shout-out to another power couple was pretty perfect. Wondering why glitter is suddenly so hard to come by? Heidi Klum’s flashy costume might have something to do with it.

The 2019 amfAR Gala Cannes featured the usual array of models, actresses and musicians. But this year, the annual gala made headlines because it served as the official launch of the new Giambattista Valli x H&M collection. Everyone from Kendall Jenner to H.E.R. was outfitted in the tulle-focused collab, which partially drops tomorrow (the full collection won’t be available until November 7). Those not on promotional duty embraced some OTT silhouettes. Dua Lipa stood out in a fiery Valentino haute couture gown and Sara Sampaio’s feathered Armani Privé also made quite a statement. And the naked dress is still going strong with several peekaboo pieces popping up on the gray carpet. Check out the slideshow above to see who wore what at the gala.

CANNES, FRANCE - MAY 21: Elle Fanning attends the screening of "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" during the 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2019 in Cannes, France. (Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)

Cannes is known for grand gowns and this year, celebrities really upped the stakes. From dresses so big they needed their own zip code to blinding bling in the form of necklaces, cuffs and earrings, there was so much to take in at every premiere. And there were plenty of structured silhouettes, especially when it came to jumpsuits. (We even spotted a pair of rompers on the red carpet.)

But the biggest star of this year’s festival was Elle Fanning. The youngest jury member in the event’s history, the actress really went for it each and every time she set foot on the red carpet. And we appreciate all the effort the 21-year-old put into her appearances.

In case you weren’t glued to your computer to check out all the premiere looks, we went ahead and put them together in one handy-dandy slideshow. You can thank us later.

With this year’s Camp: Notes on Fashion theme, we expected stars to bring the crazy drama. And boy, did they deliver on the OTT front. From Lady Gaga going through several wardrobe changes — all on the pink carpet, no less — to Zendaya’s light up Cinderella dress to Katy Perry looking pretty lit, it was go big or go home. And it wasn’t just the clothes stealing all the thunder. Ciara won for biggest and baddest hair of the night, while Hailey Bieber went with an old-fashioned ‘do and props to Tessa Thompson for working her extra long braid like a whip. Plus, the guys really came to play, even when it came to makeup. (Kudos to Darren Criss for his daring eye makeup.) We must give a special shout-out to Billy Porter, whose Cleopatra-like entrance almost upstaged Gaga’s performance. Almost. It’s that time of year when celebs take a pilgrimage to the California desert for all the sights and sounds of Coachella. This year, we saw the usual packs of Victoria’s Secret models and festival mainstays (hello, Vanessa Hudgens, Alessandra Ambrosio and Paris Hilton). And while cutoffs and florals still reigned supreme, there were a couple of surprising trends at this year’s festival.

The pattern of the weekend was definitely polka dots with several celebs showing their spots via matched sets and frilly dresses. Neon was also huge — and not just at the Neon Carnival. From hot pink to bright green, it was one of the sartorial highlights. And Gigi Hadid was almost single-handedly trying to keep the tie-dye wave going.

Now that we’ve whetted your appetite, here are all the must-see getups celebs wore for the first weekend of Coachella.
