Emanuele Farneti continues to make big strides as the editor of D la Repubblica. Issue after issue, we here at theFashionSpot, are often left in a constant state of awe over both the magazine’s front covers and contents. Make no mistake, Volume #1 of D‘s fashion issue installment for 2024 is no different. Farneti went all-out for the occasion, enlisting a handful of top models from DNA Models as cover stars. A whopping 21 covers feature models Rianne van Rompaey, Saskia de Brauw, Malgosia Bela, Adwoa Aboah, Natalia Vodianova, Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmermann, Linda Evangelista, Julia Nobis, Doutzen Kroes, Carolyn Murphy, Guinevere van Seenus, Imaan Hammam, Emily Ratajkowski, Devyn Garcia, Kiki Willems, Lily Kebede, Deva Cassel, Anja Rubik, Edie Campbell and Mica Argañaraz. The girls pose within Robin Galiegue’s photographic studio, with Jacob K reporting for styling duties and the results are nothing short of spectacular.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This is how you do multi-covers. Drive me crazy with indecisiveness over which cover to buy! They look good together and none of them are bad,” raved aracic.

“Wow, there’s not a single bad cover! Loving them all. Malgosia’s is my favorite, though. Stellar casting,” applauded forum member thiago.

Fiercification commented: “Robin Galiegue is the don! Finally a new photographer who understands fashion. All the covers are wonderful but I’d have to go with Malgosia, Adwoa or Karen I reckon.”

“Amazing covers. The styling is super sharp and elegant,” admired Alquimista.

“Completely blown away, just like everyone else, over how fantastic each and every cover is! So much beauty, so much splendor and so much fabulosity. Almost an impossible task to pick just one favorite and I wouldn’t even know where to start,” enthused vogue28.

Vogue Australia December 2023 : Emily Ratajkowski by Lachlan Bailey
IMAGE | VOGUE.COM.AU

We take our Lachlan Bailey fix at any given moment, and whether he’s shooting sizzling summer campaigns for H&M or photographing supermodels for the covers of magazines – Bailey’s work is often a sight for sore eyes. Thankfully for us as editor-in-chief of Vogue Australia, Christine Centenera favors the Aussie New York-based photographer too, who profiled Florence Pugh for the title just last month. Bailey now fixes his lens upon Emily Ratajkowski, who stars on Australian Vogue‘s December 2023 edition, five years after her last. In the subtle and demure cover image, the American model and actress is dressed by Centenera in a bralette from Hermès, a Bottega Veneta mohair coat and jewelry from Bulgari.

At once, the cover ignited debate amongst members of our forums. “Spectacular!” jal718 heralded.

“I really appreciate Vogue Australia giving Lachlan Bailey the platform he deserves and while I couldn’t care less about Emily, I think this is a nice cover. I love Bailey’s lighting and post production, his images always look beautiful. I’m all here for Vogue Australia giving us a monthly Lachlan Bailey fix!” championed aracic.

Echoing the same sentiments was vogue28: “The more I see this, the more I fall just a little more in love with it. Never been one to dislike Emily Ratajkowski and think Lachlan Bailey has just her justice, just as he does with every other subject he fixes his lens upon. The colors are gorgeous, love all those nude tones and how Centenera’s clothing choices complement Bailey’s lighting wonderfully.”

Not everyone, however, was on the same page. “I like Lachlan Bailey but this is so dreary, and not a good way,” shared forum member SLFC.

“It looks like they were trying to morph her into Penélope Cruz,” mikel pointed out.

Urban Stylin said: “I wish her hair was different on the cover, the pulled-back hair makes her head disappear due to the beige overload.”

M Le Magazine du Monde November 25, 2023 by Oliver Hadlee Pearch
IMAGE | INSTAGRAM/JBATALBOURDET

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: M Le Magazine du Monde is the gift that keeps on giving. Over recent months, outshining its competition, the supplement to France’s Le Monde newspaper has served up a whole plethora of applause-enduing covers starring high-fashion beauties such as Rianne van Rompaey, Awar Odhiang and Selena Forrest. Fashion models always remain high on the agenda when it comes to the magazine’s front covers, with Marie-Pierre Lannelongue bestowing upon us 6 models-of-the-moment for the publication’s latest dated November 25, 2023.

Lannelongue commissions photographer Oliver Hadlee Pearch for the occasion, as well as stylist Charlotte Collet who profile models Emily Ratajkowski, Angelina Kendall, Anja Rubik, Sora Choi, Saskia de Brauw and Nyajuok Gatdet. Across an array of celebratory covers, looks from fashion brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Alaïa, Hermès, Celine and Chanel make an appearance.

The moment the covers and accompanying fashion story dropped, members of our forums were left in complete and utter awe. “F*cking fabulous!” heralded helmutnotdead.

“The latest story is fabulous indeed!” echoed thiago, sharing the same enthusiasm.

“Looove this! Sora and Angelina look AMAZING,” forum members Ihhbl raved.

Vogue28 declared: “Angelina Kendall’s cover is EVERYTHING I’ve been missing with the December covers, thus far! An overload of red, glamour, drama and joy – it’s divine. Also here for Anja Rubik’s cover and I’m rather fond of Emily Ratajkowski’s second cover. 10/10 from me!”

17 Short Models Who Made It Big

It’s universally known that if you want to be a model, you’ve got to be tall. For a lot of us, 5’9″ is a pretty good height, but in the fashion industry, that’s on the shorter side for a model. That doesn’t mean, however, that girls who aren’t blessed with longer legs can’t still have successful careers. In fact, there are plenty of women who have proved that, although they might not stand as tall as most models, they can still make it–like these 17 top models, all of whom are under 5’9″:

1. Lily-Rose Depp

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | TAYLOR HILL/GETTY IMAGES

Lily-Rose Depp may only be 5’3″, but she looms large in Karl Lagerfeld’s mind. The Chanel muse has walked many a tweed-filled runway (Haute Couture Spring 2017, Pre-Fall 2017, Haute Couture Fall 2015) and starred in various beauty and eyewear campaigns for the brand. Depp has already graced a fair number of magazine covers, among them Jalouse, LOVE, V Magazine, Vogue Paris, British Vogue, ELLE France, ELLE Greece and Vanity Fair France. We suppose she has her equally petite, preternaturally beautiful mom to thank.

2. Lottie Moss

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | TAYLOR HILL/GETTY IMAGES

Much like her big sister Kate Moss, Lottie Moss has risen within the industry despite being (somewhat) vertically challenged. (Needless to say, the family affiliation didn’t hurt.) The 5’6″ British beauty has fronted campaigns for Topshop, Chanel, Bulgari and RED Valentino. She’s walked the runways of Sonia Rykiel, Topshop Unique and Chanel and graced a handful of covers, the most notable being Vogue Paris’ May 2016 edition, which she shared with fellow genetically #blessed millennial Lucky Blue Smith.

3. Hailey Bieber

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | PASCAL LE SEGRETAIN/GETTY IMAGES

Instagirl Hailey Bieber is one of the most visible models of our time thanks (in part) to the 5’7″ blonde’s close friendship with the Jenner and Hadid sisters – and being married to Justin Bieber. Nevertheless, the IMG signee — who’s walked for the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Jeremy Scott, Prabal Gurung, Elie Saab, Tory Burch, Off-White, Zadig & Voltaire and Tommy Hilfiger — has more than earned her stripes. She has fronted campaigns for Guess, Karl Lagerfeld, Tommy Jeans, Calvin Klein, Versace, Miu Miu, UGG. In June 2022, the American beauty unveiled Rhode – a line of efficacious, intentional skincare essentials.

4. Sofia Richie Grainge

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | PAUL MORIGI/GETTY IMAGES

Sofia Richie Grainge (daughter of Lionel Richie) is successfully forged her own identity in the modeling industry and now considered a style icon. The 5’6″, beauty has fronted Complex, Wonderland, Town & Country, walked the runways of Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Yeezy and Philipp Plein and appeared in the pages of W, V Magazine, Vogue Japan and Seventeen, among others.

5. Adwoa Aboah

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | LIA TOBY/GETTY IMAGES

Freckle-faced Ghanaian-British beauty Adwoa Aboah is a force to be reckoned with. The 5’8″ 24-year-old is a Vogue (and Vogue.com) favorite thanks to her fresh, rebellious personal style. Not that she needed the validation. Aboah has walked nearly every runway of note (Miu Miu, Chanel, Christian Dior, Fenty x Puma, Versace, Fendi, Moschino, Marc Jacobs, Kenzo) and starred in countless high-profile campaigns (Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Sephora). In 2017, Aboah jumped to the silver screen as Ghost in the Shell’s Lia.

6. Rose Bertram

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | MIKE COPPOLA/GETTY IMAGES

Rose Bertram, a 5’7″ bombshell known for her curly mane and killer curves, is a favorite of Sports Illustrated, LOVE, H&M and Jeremy Scott. The IMG signee and Instagirl on the rise has also worked with beauty giant L’Oréal Paris and luxury lingerie retailer Agent Provocateur, among others.

7. Sara Sampaio

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | MIKE MARSLAND/GETTY IMAGES

As far as Victoria’s Secret Angels go, 5’8″ Sara Sampaio is a bit on the “short” side. Still, Portugal’s most photogenic export is a mainstay on the international catwalks. In 2017, she’s strutted Balmain, Mugler, Elie Saab, Alberta Ferretti, Baja East, Marchesa, Tory Burch, Prabal Gurung and Tommy Hilfiger. Her list of recent campaign appearances is almost as long-winded — Moroccanoil, Victoria’s Secret, Blumarine, Hogan… Oh, and she’s already got Vogue, LOVE and Editorialist features under her belt.

8. Emily Ratajkowski

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | KARWAI TANG/GETTY IMAGES

You’ve definitely had an eyeful of 5’7″ Emily Ratajkowski — you’ll remember her from 2013’s controversial “Blurred Lines” music video and 2014’s movie adaptation of Gone Girl. But Ratajkowski’s a model first. Her formidable CV includes a turn on Miu Miu’s Fall 2016 runway, a spot in Marc Jacobs’ sprawling Spring 2016 ad campaign and stints on the covers of CR Fashion Book, GQ Spain and British Vogue. Oh, and she’s a firm fave of Donatella Versace.

9. Marisa Miller

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | JON KOPALOFF/GETTY IMAGES

Marisa Miller would be a babe no matter her height, which is 5’8″, to be exact. The American fashion model is known best for looking scrumptious in Sports Illustrated and for Victoria’s Secret.

10. Kate Moss

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | DIMITRIOS KAMBOURIS/GETTY IMAGES

Kate Moss is an industry icon, which is amazing, considering shes’ only 5’7″. But her keen modeling abilities and dangerous, cool-girl vibe we all wish we had have turned her into one of the most successful faces in the world.

11. Cara Delevingne

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | ARTURO HOLMES/GETTY IMAGES

Cara Delevingne‘s height has been reported to be anywhere between 5’7″ and 5’8″. One thing’s for sure, she’s definitely not traditional runway height. Her agent once tried to get her cast in Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2012 show, but she was cut when Marc Jacobs asked, “Why is that dwarf in there?”

12. Devon Aoki

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | CINDY ORD/GETTY IMAGES

Devon Aoki is one of the shortest high fashion models out there, and has enjoyed a lot of success through her career. In the late 90s, she became the face of Versace and also posed for Chanel, Kenzo, Moschino, Fendi and many more. How tall is she? Just 5’5″.

13. Camille Rowe

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | KEVIN MAZUR/GETTY IMAGES

Camille Rowe has landed campaigns with Chloé, Aldo, Dior Homme, H&M and more, as well as multiple covers of ELLE France. She’s also posed for Victoria’s Secret at only 5’7″. Not bad for a “short” girl, right?

14. Lila Moss

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | DAVE KOTINSKY/GETTY IMAGES

After posing alongside her model mother Kate Moss on Vogue Italia’s July 2016 edition, it was only a matter of time before Lila Moss reached superstardom. At 5’3″, Lila has secured campaigns for a whole multitude of fashion houses including Ermanno Scervino, Versace, Marc Jacobs and appeared on the magazine covers of British Vogue, Vogue Japan and Vanity Fair Italia to name a select few.

15. Liberty Ross

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | KARWAI TANG/GETTY IMAGES

Liberty Ross‘ 5’6″ frame certainly was not a problem for Burberry, Emanuel Ungaro or Jimmy Choo–they all chose her to front their campaigns.

16. Lydia Hearst

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | AMANDA EDWARDS/GETTY IMAGES

While it helps that your family is one of the most powerful in the publishing industry when you’re trying to start a modeling career, Lydia Hearst has had a lot of success–not because of her name. She’s landed campaigns for Juicy Couture, Pringle of Scotland, Swarovski and more. Not to mention the sizeable amount of print work she’s done for international versions of VogueMarie ClaireElle and more. The 5’7″ Hearst has been so successful, that she was chosen to be a mentor for season 2 of Naomi Campbell’s modeling reality competition, The Face.

17. Laetitia Casta

17 Short Models Who Made It Big
IMAGE | STEPHANE CARDINALE-CORBIS/GETTY IMAGES

Laetitia Casta has had a tremendously successful career in spite of her 5’6″ height. The credits are as far as the eye can see: A contract with L’Oréal Paris, a stint as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, covers of Vogue, ELLE, i-D as well as jobs modeling for Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Roberto CavalliVivienne Westwood and countless others.

Edward Enninful continues to throw us curve balls as he rounds out his tenure as editor of British Vogue. Last month was the surprise of all surprises, as Lily Gladstone and Leonardo DiCaprio became the magazine’s cover stars, which ultimately, fell extremely short and devoid of fashion (bizarre, we know). This month, Enninful drops us another series of surprise cover stars, as he pays homage to the place in which the magazine has been created for the last 65 years: Vogue House. Condé Nast is saying goodbye to the landmark Hanover Square, Mayfair location in 2024 (in favor of The Adelphi on Thames Embankment) and UK Vogue is going ALL out to celebrate the historic building with a trio of celebratory covers.
Cover one shows models Emily Ratajkowski and Adwoa Aboah atop the building’s revolving door, cover two sees Irina Shayk and Adut Akech posing outside the loading bay while the third cover shows Karen Elson and Mona Tougaard (sat perched on top a Royal Mail postbox) outside of Vogue House, with the facade of the 1950s office building as the backdrop. Each cover has been captured by photographer Sean Thomas, complete with styling from Dena Giannini.

Per usual, the all-important question remained: were our forum members impressed? “Finally, a set of British Vogue covers this year that don’t look dreary and sad!” heralded crmsn.
Vogue28 said: “The first cover is truly the only one which should’ve been printed/made. The other two are absolutely naff and are a complete non-event, in comparison to the first cover which I’m actually rather fond of. The cover feels celebratory, fashion-y and pays homage to Vogue House perfectly, IMO.”
“The idea is nice, but the execution is terrible,” immediately complained Ivanity86.
“This concept is so… stupid to me,” laughed blueorchid.
“This is terrible. Pure trash,” exclaimed a far from impressed caioherrero.
Forum member liberty33r1b wasn’t exactly jumping for joy either, adding: “I can only laugh at these covers, just tragic!”
“They could’ve at least called Tim Walker…” cried out Conbothsides.

Think of Chanel and you think of the quilted 2.55 handbag. Think of Louis Vuitton and you think of the monogrammed canvas. Think Victoria’s Secret and you think VS Angels.
Over recent years, the iconic American lingerie retailer has undergone an image overhaul, announcing partnerships with a whole host of diverse and inclusive figures including Megan Rapinoe, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Naomi Osaka to name a few. In 2022, the brand also had Sofía Jirau make history as the first model with Down syndrome to appear in a Victoria’s Secret campaign. The brand also counts openly transgender model Valentina Sampaio as an ambassador. These women form the VS Collective, as the brand distances themselves from the VS Angels era.
Now, for 2023, the brand welcomes back the OG Angels for a new advertising campaign aptly titled ‘The Icon Collection’ which attempts to empower all women.

Models Adut Akech, Hailey Bieber, Paloma Elsesser, Jill Kortleve, Sui He and Emily Ratajkowski also make an appearance as part of the new guard of VS beauties and feature throughout the campaign offering, which was captured by photographer Mikael Jansson and styled by Camilla Nickerson.

2022 Cannes International Film Festival

After skipping 2020 and scaling back for 2021 due to the pandemic, the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival is back in full force. Which is great for us since it usually produces fashion moments on par with the Met Gala and the Oscars. Although we have to admit, a decent amount of looks were relatively lackluster.

When it comes to designers, certain ones reigned supreme. We witnessed several dresses from Valentino’s Fall 2022 offering, aka the pink collection, take to the red carpet. Sharon Stone stuck with Dolce & Gabbana probably because she stars in the Italian fashion house’s new handbag campaign. As usual, there were plenty of haute couture looks to go around. Fendi, Armani Privé, Elie Saab, Christian Dior and Chanel are just a small sampling. Custom creations were also trending with Cara Delevingne’s revealing Balmain gown one of the standouts.

The jewelry was also something to behold. Especially when it came to necklaces. Julianne Moore’s Bottega Veneta dress was amplified by Bulgari’s Eden The Garden of Wonders necklace, for example.

On the beauty front, hair really turned heads. Bella Hadid’s wet-look hairdo with sculpted strands in the middle of her forehead really made a statement. As did Grace Elizabeth’s piecey pixie.

2022 Met GalaAfter skipping 2020 and scaling back a bit in 2021, we expected the 2022 Met Gala to really bring the drama. Not to mention the fashion. Thankfully, we aren’t disappointed. Continuing the theme of “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” there was plenty of gilded glamour. There were corsets, structured skirts and opera gloves galore. But there were several stars who either downright ignored the theme or tried to put a modern spin on it. For example, Janelle Monáe’s Ralph Lauren look was a futuristic interpretation. We spotted a surprising amount of cut-out accents. We were also taken aback by the sheer volume of see-through sections. (See what we did there?) Kim Kardashian certainly turned heads decked out in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Jean Louis dress. Both Blake Lively and Sydney Sweeney did an outfit reveal on the red carpet. The former rocked two Atelier Versace creations that paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty. The latter transformed her Tory Burch gown into a minidress. Suits were also popular. Cara Delevingne, Irina Shayk and Chloë Grace Moretz all stepped out in striking style. It was actually a welcome contrast to all the dynamic dresses. It’s definitely worth your time to scroll down to see all the crazy, sexy and totally cool looks from the 2022 Met Gala.

2021 CFDA Fashion Awards

There were two dominant trends at the 2021 CFDA Fashion Awards. Bright pops of color and all-black looks. It was a pretty interesting contrast, actually.

Emily Blunt hit the red black carpet before her hosting duties decked out in an orange Christopher John Rogers suit. Fashion Icon honoree Zendaya rocked a red Vera Wang set. And Face of the Year Anya Taylor-Joy wowed in a purple Oscar de la Renta creation complemented by leopard gloves and a matching hat.

Actress/model HoYeon Jung attended in a draped Louis Vuitton black dress. Ciara hit the carpet in Tom Ford. While Cara Delevingne sported a tuxedo blazer.
