D la Repubblica continues to stomp on the competition and show just about every major fashion magazine on the planet how it’s done. We currently remain in the midst and the glory that is ‘The Fashion Issue’. Following on from Volume #1 which resulted in us here at theFashionSpot hyperventilating over 21 spectacular covers, Volume #2 is evidently no different. Emanuele Farneti dials down the number of covers, to give us a selection of three. Cover one sees Farneti call upon Paolo Roversi, who captures Penelope Ternes, Lina Zhang, Amar Akway and Yar Aguer. Colin Dodgson photographs Jesi Shelnutt for cover two while Ida Heiner serves retro glam on cover three, as she poses for photographer Theo Sion.

Under Alastair McKimm, i-D continues to be the gift that keeps on giving. The publication has a knack for dropping buzzworthy covers starring Kate Moss, Teyana Taylor, Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, Billie Eilish and Kim Kardashian. There’s always something for everyone and the fashion title’s Spring 2022 edition is no different. This time around a total of seven covers come our way featuring Paloma Elsesser by Sam Rock, Cruz Beckham by Steven Klein, Rosalía by Oliver Hadlee Pearch, Hunter Schafer by Stef Mitchell, Binx Walton by Amy Troost, HoYeon Jung by Colin Dodgson and Kendall Jenner by Luis Alberto Rodriguez.

The covers immediately ignited debate on our forums. “I love Paloma Elsesser, but this is really not good,” confessed KINGofVERSAILLES.

“Geez isn’t Cruz Beckham like 17 years old? Not interested in seeing him on covers, least of all in his boxers…” disapproved Marc10.

“That Cruz cover is making me feel so uncomfortable,” echoed [Piece Of Me].

“Hideous retouching. This child’s abs look painted on,” avonlea002 pointed out.

Rosalía’s cover soon became the topic of conversation. “That’s a stunning cover!” declared mikel.

“The best of the bunch is Rosalía’s cover, purely because I’m reminded of Nick Knight’s early work for British Vogue with the photography. I love the colors, I like the styling and Rosalía’s pose. I’m also very surprised at Kendall Jenner’s cover…” voiced vogue28.

“I like Binx Walton’s because it’s a classic i-D cover,” added ivano.

“Happy to see HoYeon Jung. Love her cover! I also love Hunter Schafer, but her cover is probably my least favorite. They could have done so much more with her, what a waste,” said guimon.

It has been three years since Alastair McKimm took over i-D and transformed the cutting-edge publication. Since 2018, covers featuring Christy Turlington, Adut Akech, Kate Moss, Teyana Taylor, Naomi Campbell along with Gigi Hadid captured our attention. Thankfully, the magazine’s Fall 2021 installment is no different. In true i-D fashion, several covers come our way. The seven collectible covers include Billie Eilish by Glen Luchford, Mona Tougaard by Luis Alberto Rodriguez, Anok Yai by Amy Troost, Rianne Van Rompaey by Colin Dodgson, Fran Summers by Alasdair McLellan, Mica Argañaraz by Drew Vickers along with Kweku Asante and Takuya by Tyler Mitchell.

Billie’s cover was the first to drop. “The cover is boring and empty because Billie’s boring and empty. Still, it’s more true to her than that ridiculous costume cover story she did for British Vogue,” commented mepps.

“This styling seems much more true to her than the sultry glam thing she did for a minute…” echoed KINGofVERSAILLES.

“I don’t mind if she is presented as herself or someone else. I always enjoy a celebrity versatile enough to impact in both ways… This is boring…” critiqued Xone.

“I honestly feel a little sad for Billie because she looks pathetic next to Mona Tougaard,” confessed helmutnotdead.

“Mona’s cover is so good,” applauded Abby Zacky.

FashionMuseDior certainly agreed: “Mona bringing in the SHAPES honey. That body!”

“Mica’s cover is electrifying!” exclaimed Alien Sex Friend.

“Out of all the seven covers, Mica’s has to be my favorite. It is indeed rather electric and the most…vibrant (despite the black and white) out of the bunch and very Vogue Paris, which of course I’m all for,” vogue28 pointed out.

Ever since Emanuele Farneti took over Vogue Italia back in 2017, it has been an extremely rocky road. This year alone covers dedicated to animals, everyday style, creativity and astrology have all been questionable, especially in comparison to Franca Sozzani‘s rich and celebrated legacy. Now after Farneti announced his departure, an edition dedicated to Naples comes our way for August 2021. Mona Tougaard takes us to the Italian city photographed by Colin Dodgson. The Danish beauty takes in the sights wearing a look from Saint Laurent’s Fall 2021 collection chosen by stylist Francesca Burns.

Ultimately, the cover received mixed feedback on our forums. “This is definitely one of Farneti’s better covers…” confessed Ken Doll Jenner.

“I actually like it. The bar is so low that I like this,” declared MON.

“Considering the standards of this magazine, especially the last two issues, I’ll take this,” echoed THD96.

“Can’t say that I love this even though it’s far from their worst,” noted aracic.

SLFC was in the same frame of mind: “I feel like she could be closer up, but I mean it’s not terrible. Pretty normal as low as the standard for Vogue Italia is.”

“It’s nothing tragic, just those things they add to the Vogue masthead that are totally unnecessary,” DK92 pointed out.

“Gosh, can’t wait for the art director to get fired,” commented Scotty.

“Another absolute dud of a cover under Farneti’s tenure if you ask me and I’ve been at the point where I couldn’t care less about Vogue Italia for months. Covers and editorials over the past few years have just been so incredibly dismal that I now feel numb to each new cover,” voiced vogue28.

It’s hard to believe a whole year has gone by since American Vogue served up that absolutely poignant Irving Penn cover. Ever since the mag’s delivered megawatt cover stars, including Naomi Campbell, Harry Styles along with Selena Gomez. Now Kaia Gerber makes her solo debut on the American fashion bible with the unveiling of its June/July 2021 issue. The all-American beauty poses in Malibu wearing a Chanel Spring 2021 Haute Couture dress (selected by Tonne Goodman) for the image shot by Colin Dodgson.

Nevertheless, the cover is receiving mixed reviews. “The cover looks regal! I love the fact that Vogue is finally trying to spice things up with its covers without fully changing its brand,” admired crmsnsnwflks.

“For some reason, I really like this,” admits MyNameIs.

“That’s quite a lovely shot!” confesses mikel.

“This is just fantastic. A cozy and indeed hopeful cover where everything comes together so well,” approved an obviously thrilled 1018am.

MON is certainly a fan: “I like it. There’s something very hopeful about this particular cover. Maybe it’s the way that she’s looking ahead?”

“Got no complaints seeing Kaia Gerber on the cover of Vogue, always love the sight of a beach, love the clear blue skies and the warm sunset lighting along with the sense of freedom and optimism the cover brings…” voiced vogue28.

But clearly not everyone is happy. “At this point the death of Vogue is self-inflicted. People are bored of seeing the same-looking, boring, rich, nepotism girls pushed at them,” wrote Serend1pity.

“U.S. Vogue is so lost, I don’t hate the cover nor am I wowed by it, it’s just meh,” proclaimed ReneSanchez.

Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and Charlize Theron huddle together on W‘s latest photographed by Colin Dodgson and styled by Moonves herself for the occasion.

Members of our forums loved the Bombshell stars’ cover. “Haven’t seen such a fabulous cover by W in a looooooooooooong time!” exclaimed GERGIN.

“Fantastic cover, they all look super stunning, but I could stare at Margot for hours! She’s gorgeous,” wrote aracic.

In total agreement over the outcome was [Piece Of Me]. “This is marvelous. Such a powerful trio and I am very glad W gave them a cover together instead of multiple covers.”
