D la Repubblica continues to stomp on the competition and show just about every major fashion magazine on the planet how it’s done. We currently remain in the midst and the glory that is ‘The Fashion Issue’. Following on from Volume #1 which resulted in us here at theFashionSpot hyperventilating over 21 spectacular covers, Volume #2 is evidently no different. Emanuele Farneti dials down the number of covers, to give us a selection of three. Cover one sees Farneti call upon Paolo Roversi, who captures Penelope Ternes, Lina Zhang, Amar Akway and Yar Aguer. Colin Dodgson photographs Jesi Shelnutt for cover two while Ida Heiner serves retro glam on cover three, as she poses for photographer Theo Sion.

Sharing the same level of enthusiasm was Koibito, commenting: “Wow, Volume #1 was too good and beat almost every fashion issue from almost every magazine out there and now Farneti continues with another great one.”

“Paolo Roversi can be very hit or miss to me, but his editorial is incredible compared to Vogue Italia this month,” blueorchid applauded.

“Ida looks stunning!” raved Kishan.

“Absolutely OBSESSED and completely besotted with that Ida Heiner cover by Theo Sion. So unbelievably gorgeous, love the black and white, the beauty styling, the retro vibe…” voiced vogue28.

Emanuele Farneti had some extremely large shoes to fill when he took over Vogue Italia and two years later, our forum members still aren’t completely on board with his vision for the magazine (or over the loss of Franca Sozzani). Not even covers featuring Anok Yai, Amber Valletta and Shalom Harlow have sufficed. Now with a change in creative directors (Giovanni Bianco out, Ferdinando Verderi in), the mag drops a trio of covers for July 2019. You can choose from Gigi Hadid by Alasdair McLellan, Imaan Hammam by Theo Sion and Karen Elson by Harley Weir.

For our forum members, the covers were proof Farneti is in way over his head. “R.I.P. Vogue Italia…” wrote phungnam96.

“Nothing makes sense to me, especially how they scream ITALIA on the covers. They could’ve stuck to just fashion instead of throwing around random ideas,” scolded Conbothsides.

“Not a single redeeming cover! And why would anyone cover Imaan’s face up like that? Is it to make the other covers stand out? Ridiculous covers, ridiculous concept,” echoed Benn98.

Also sharing a total lack of enthusiasm was MON: “Knew it. A new creative director will not save this magazine. The EIC is the main problem. Terrible. What does all of this have to do with DNA? I never clamor for a person to leave his job, but Farneti has to go.”

GivenchyAddict felt the same way. “Too literal. Not interested. There is no conversation to engage on DNA and how we came from different communities as they just put out blatant sponsored covers by Louis Vuitton.”

“This is NOT the way you want to usher in a new era, but then it’s just another gimmick by just another Vogue edition!” called out Miss Dalloway.
